RE: Neighbor's dog shot
My friends black lab came home after being out for a hour or two. He has two .22 cal bullets lodged in the back of his head. Dog is alive and fine. One of the bullets is still in there and always will be. We have come to the conclusion that one of the little punks down the street got a new .22 and decided to take out some target practice on his dog!!

RE: Neighbor's dog shot
This war has gone on since the range war days.In IL it's best to be sure your dogs are penned up during deer season, if you love your dog. I've had dogs on me before and when I went and ask the owners to keep them off my land during deer season, I was told they like to let their dogs run loose. Some owners have said ok, but I see the dog two days later. The days of the open range are over! I paid for the land, I'm payingthe taxes. A loose dog, might become a lost dog. Ditto for cats.

RE: Neighbor's dog shot
Might want to check the Illinois hunting seasons. Pefectly legal for people to have bird, rabbit, coon, and coyote dogs out during all the deer seasons.Strays are another issue, but as the various court cases that I have posted indicated, that "lost" dog might end up costing you a lot.

RE: Neighbor's dog shot
I just set out my Big Coyote traps. Owners were pissed about having to come get their dogs out of my traps. Game warden told them to keep their dogs off my land if "they" didn't want their dogs in traps.

RE: Neighbor's dog shot
Sounds like a good strategy to discourage someone who you have already warned about keeping his dogs off your place. But on the other hand, if you had shot them and got caught, you might end up talking to the local Sherif and Prosecutor who might be much less supportive than the GW.The laws work in funny ways sometimes.

RE: Neighbor's dog shot
Phil,
I think that Americaneagle has a legitimate gripe if neighbors dogs are repeatedly straying on his property despite warnings.I would get pretty damn irritated if someone's dog kept coming on my land and blundering into my traps. The issue that you seem to understand that many don't is thatfolks can be limited in what they can do to deal with domestic animals (considered as chattel property)that they consider to be a nuisance. Hell,I found a case on the internet where two police offices were charged with shooting a nuisance dog because they did not first make an effortto catch it. |
