Bottom line is this....YES, there are times when taking a dog out is warranted, and maybe even a good thing.

BUT.... I bet that 98% of the time it is not the dogs fault, and probablymost of the time that dog is a pet - not some rogue feral beast out to destroy anything and everything. All these macho rednecks out shooting dogs just because "they came by" or"ruined my hunt"is absolutely ignorant and uncalled for. Use common sense, and have a little heart. What if that happened to your dogor your kids pet?

Yes, dogs should be kept properly...we all know that. If they are left to run all the time and are anuisance, well that needs to be dealt with (and can still be dealt with without shooting it in most cases). However - I venture to say that just about ANYONE that has a dog has had it get out and run at one point or another. It just happens, and shouldn't automatically mean the dogshould die. Also, just because it comes by....doesn't mean its chasing down deer and killing them, or some of the other stupid thoughts I've read here. They are most often dogs that are just being dogs. Some people have the nerve to call themselves hunters, yet claim they will shoot any dog they see on the spot. If that is you...I can only hope the table is turned on you someday.

I agree that this is a travesty. Look, I know there is often frustration when a dog or dogs ease through where you are hunting. Had that happen numerous times. Part of hunting close to residences.

I think it is safe to say that we all can tell the difference between a well cared for pet or hunting hound, and a scroungy feral. I'll drop a wild, feral in a heart beat ... but no way I am taking out a pet or hunting dog just becasue it may have buggered up myhunt.

Lanse Douche Douche,just using my common sense it appears thatyou get your jollies off by bitc*in on the internet... And Most people that do have a little common sense know that its huntin season and that theyd better keep ol yeller on a tight leash if he has a tendancy of runnin off...OR some hunter down the road who is just itch'n to shoot at somethin might take a crack at their loose dog! To me thats common sense.

Some folks like to rant but wouldn't even think about doing so,though they may say they would.. Also here you can hunt birds during deer season with your bird dogs.. If mine was shot by some fool you can rest assured you would never be able to hunt again. You most likely find yourself with a jail sentence of not less than 6 months and you would surely owe me an awfull lot of money as well. That is if it was shot intentionally because it was running threw hunting for birds. Mine like to run and get scent of birds to point. So for you to tell me that my dog has no right hunting birds is saying you have no right to hunt at all. It is very clear you would be giving all respectable hunters a bad name.

If my dog bit somebody my dog would surely be disposed of by me or a vet without a doubt provided it was not provoked into doing so. Just because some one says it ate chickens or whatever does not mean in fact it did so. Also the chickens have no more right being loose for foxes to eat or any other animal to eat them. But just because they are loose it doesn't give me the right to put one in the pot for supper either because it wandered off.
