I sometimes hunt by a feeder. I have killed many, many deer in my 44 years of life. I would say about 90% of these deer were not killed by a feeder, but I have killed many deer by feeders, primarily with bow. I have killed many good bucks in my life, but never one near a feeder or a food plot. I work my ass off every Summer in preparation for hunting season and spend hours upon hours in the field doing what I love, yet I do occasionally hunt a feeder. My point is, even though I am an accomplished deer hunter, I guess in your opinionIsuck at hunting because I occasionally hunt a feeder. Baiting is for those that suck at hunting? Give me a break.

Does anybody actually hunt anymore ? I say no. What we do is ambush deer not hunt them. Sitting by a trail, a food plot, a watering hole, a rub line, a feeder, a fence line, a scrape, a creek or just plain sitting in the woods, I would call that an ambush and not hunting.5 guys with spears chasing a deer down would be hunting.

Everyone wants to be Jackie Bushman. He sucks too. Yes, he has a big wall of trophys. Most shot inside a high fence, and fed like cows. Now thats hunting.
As for Mr. Thomas, nothing for you.

In the first place, you're confusing still hunting with stand hunting. It would be impossible to still hunt over bait as most people consider stillhunting as slipping slowly through the woods while looking for deer. Secondly, I DON'T consider hunting over a corn pile to be sporting. Just MY opinion ONLY. I don't understand how it's a challenge if the deer are coming directly to the bait. Thirdly, and most importantly, most of the people I've seen bait usually does so only until they get their tags filled, then stop abruptly. Since the deer are used to coming to this food source, they have a harder time of fending for natural food the rest of the winter. This is EXTREMELY similiar to when I witnessed the anti-hunting freaks put coen out, only to stop when the deer needed it most-stopping right in mid-stream.So NO, I refuse to hunt with, or around "baiters".

Baiting isjust a part of stillhunting here. I don't know anyone who hunts in clubs and other private land that doesn't use corn/bait. I don't see why anyone wouldn't bait where it is legal, and i don't understand why some on here have the attitude that baiting is sloppy or almost like it is canned hunting because it isn't. We may stand better odds to concentrate deer to a area, butnot bigger bucks.

Then I guess you hunted 90% of the time. Baiting is a poor excuse to hunt. I guess catching fish with minnows is as much of a challenge as a fly rod. Both are catching fish, right? They must be equal tasks, since the end result is the same. Bow hunting with a recurve is the same as a compound with sights. Right? Why not shave a few strokes off your golf game with a pencil eraser while your at it, no one is really looking, are they? Sitting over a pile of corn you bought from Walmart is a real challenge too. You actually have to carry that stuff all the way check out line. Then hopefully they don't ask to see your receipt when you walk out the door.

I don't know if my particular style of hunting is hunting to you or not but slowly slipping through the woods still hunting or sopt & stalking with bow is my ALL TIME favorite way to hunt. Successful stalks are the best of all!!!!! Kind of beyond the comprehension of baiters however since all they care about is results-NOT the hunt itself.

Well said RR! While you know I don't agree with your particular style of hunting, you do still have good ethnics.

the main thing wrong with hunting over bait, is the fact that once baiting is legalized, the hunting part is slowly forgotten, today here in wv, there isn't a handful of hunters under 40 who can go out and hunt deer and kill one without the aid of a bait pile.
another reason, a guy buys 10 acres, he puts a 10 wheeler load of corn in the middle of it, he's holding the does, so the bucks are there also, his neighbor figures out whats happening so he puts corn and apples in the middle of his 10 acres, and another neighbor figures he needs a better bait pile so he uses corn, apples, and mineral salt, etc, etc.
whats lost here is, those who know deer, and they're habits, who spend time afield to pattern them, all is lost the day someone puts corn out, everything changes.
and a corn pile is the same as a 1000 acre cornfield? not hardly, in a agricultural area, the deer pics the when where, and how he goes to the field on a cornpile its the electical timer that calls the shots.
I don't like baiting or even hunting around it, its made hunters lazy, and opens alot of doors for what I view as not in line with what ought to be considered fair chase.
I get flamed alot cause if given the chance I'll shoot a deer at 700 yards, I'm told its not hunting, but is setting a treestand up within 100 yards downwindof a corn pile considered hunting?
don't be ashamed of hunting over bait if thats the best you can do, but don't swell up with pride to much, doesn't take much effort to hunt like that.
