I also have an 870 and I have taken my barrel off many times and its always been zeroed when back on. Yes a cantilever barrel is the best way to go if you are using a scope to prevent from having to re-zero. You will be fine if you have a cantilever barrel on there.

Cantilever means the scope mount is attached to the barrel but goes over the receiver. If the scope stays attached to the barrel when you take it off then it is cantilever. If when you take the barrel off the scope stays with the receiver then it is not and you would need to sight in again.
