First off my condolenses to you SIL's uncle Johnny.

I am going to provide this link to a very good site covering tree stand safety. We all have plenty of time to hang out here so finding 10 or 15 minutes to thoroughly read and navigate the site IMO is time well spent for everyone regardless of experience.

Hunt safe everyone.

My condolences. A good friend with whom I played little league lost his father to a treestand fall. He at first was paralyzed from the neck down, then I believe it was almost a year later when he passed away. This happened before I started deer hunting from treestands, so I received a hard lesson long before I bought my first one. Always wear the harness, if its too much to deal with, hunt from blinds.
