Default What to do with old hides

My grandfather just passed away and while cleaning his home we found over 50 tanned deer hides. I assumed that there were places that I could send the hides to be made into items like coats, gloves, cushions, and such, but after doing an extensive search online and contacting 20 some taxidermists in Michigan I have had no luck. I was hoping that someone would be able to provide me with the name of a company that offers such a service or some other ideas of what to do with the hides.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather.

I'm glad to see your making something out of them rather than just getting rid if them. Some people would just toss them. I think I'd do what your doing a find some place to make so stuff.

Are they fur on or not. I make alot of my on Traditional archery stuff to include quivers etc. I have alot of fun doung it though I have a ton to learn. I've considered having my hides sent off and tanned for that reason. I hope you either get some cool stuff made for yourself to pass down to the family or get into making them into stuff yourself.

Different tansserve different purposes. The hidesmay or may not be suitable for garmants. It's also possible for them to be too old to be of any use. I'm afraid you're not going to get a sure answer from anyone until they can inspect the hides.

They are all hairless andallare10years old or less. Where can I get them inspected to see if they can be used for garmets?

There is a place in Flint that will make coats, furs and stuff from game animals. Cant remember the name offhand. PM me if interested and I will find out all the info. My wifes grandfather trapped, and had this guy make fur coats for all his daughters(4). I belive they are muskrat.
