Default First Muzzleloader Deer

Season opened yesterday. First time out with my Encore 209x50 (first time out all season actualy). I heard this guy trotting behind me so I stood up and when I saw him I had to turn to the opposite side of the tree I was in to get a shot. I got him to stop with a little whistle and shot. He hit the ground and wasnt moving. Instead of reloading I decided to smoke a ciggerette to calm my nerves. I figured he was done and down but then I could barely see him breathing. After a couple minutes he tried to stand and never came close. By the time I put out my cig he jumped up on all 4's. I thought I was going to lose him and by the time I reloaded I couldnt see him. He walked a few feet behind some brush when I was loading and luckily he stepped out and I got a good hit on him. He may of went 15 yards before piling up dead. I couldnt see where he went sense its so thick out still. My first shot hit higher than I thought and was a high lung hit. The second was right in the lungs and the blood trail, though short was perfect. 2x50gr pellets of triple777 and 250gr Hornady SST/ML's did the trick. I wont make the mistake of not reloading again. He was a 6 pointer and isnt bad for around here. Though he may be a yearling in some states lol.

Nice buck!I hunt muzzle load too, but in Washington State. Knock down, expansionand penetration are the key area's here. I have used a 360 grain Keith Nosed Sabot from Precision rifle for 10 years. I have taken many deer and a few Elk with that load. I use 110 grains of 777. They do not get up. Here is the website. Check out their cleaner too. Unbelievable. Hardly any smell, don't need to scrub your rifle down with soap and water. Best I've ever used.

nice buck, my first (last year) muzzle load deer was also a 6 point. a couple weeks later i shot a 4 point with it and this year i shot a 10 point with it. i was so impressed with my muzzle loader that i even carried it a few times during our general gun season (which is legal here).

Nice buck, but like 1shotonekill said quit smoking and it looks like you forgot to cut something off during the field dressing process.
