I hunt with both a .243 and 30/06 and they both kill just as dead. I bought the .243 because I feel the 30/06 is almost too much if you are concerned about how much meat is ruined. I do feel more confident in the 06 when its windy.

cant tell you how many times people have posted on here about them not trusting the .243 or choosing another gun over it. It makes me soooo mad because i beleive it is one of the best deer guns ever. ives used it for 3 years now and i completely love it. lease dont let anyone discourage you from using this rifle. as said before it is all about shot placement with every gun.

I shot a doe last year at 368 yards with a 243 cal. rem. 700,she ran about 50 yards and fell over.Killed a 9 pointer a few years ago at about 100 yards with a 243 he feild dressed 217lbs and fell within 10 feet of where he was shot, the 100 grain bullet broke both shoulders and left a large exit hole, but he was at close range.I would shoot him with which ever gun I shot the best with and felt comfortable with.

We'll based on everything said thus far, I'll be toting my .243 in the woods Saturday morning. I'm equally comfortable shooting both rifles. They have the exact same scope and I've been practicing shots to 250 yards with both. If I pull the trigger Saturday, I'll let you guys know how the .243 performed.

The 243 has all the power that is needed but when taking that all important shot nothing matters more than confidence in your rifle. If you want to get your deer take the gun you have the most confidence with the one you know you will have a dead deer if you use it.
