Weaver baces screw length ??

Weaver baces screw length ??
I just bought a new Browning Shortrac in 270 wsm .
I also went to Gander and picked up some weaver grandslam mounts and rings .
On the package it tells you to grind down the front screws for clearance .
Only problem is it doesnt say how much.
This is a very small screw as it is .
I called weaver customer service ,and the guy says Oh, ya, I see what your talking abought .
I said this model has been out a few years now and others listed on the application for the same mount have been out even longer .
He says its the shortest torque screw they can get .
What kind of an answer is that , I,d like the right length screw , One that I shouldnt have to grind down to work correctly .
Anyone have this problem ??
I ,m going to take a ride over to a gun smith to see if he may have the right length crews .
If you look up Browning under Weaver mounts you will see what I mean .
Kinda frustrating , $ 1,000.00 GUN , $15.00 MOUNTS AND 20CENT SCREWS ????
Weaver seams to be laid back and not to concerned with the problem .

The problem could just as easily be in the tapped holes of the gun. If they are inconsistent then it would not be possible for Weaver to know how long to make the screws. The margin for error in length is very small. Just a thought.
