What to eat
I am just curious what everyone out there eats when they are outhunting? I find myself always getting hungry but never bringing any food as I am afraid the smell of the food or the sound of the wrapperto give me away. What works for you, or what have you heard?
Thanks Dave |
RE: What to eat
I can't say I'll try this to see if it works, but, I saw a show about some African Bushmen. They were asked what makes a good hunter. Their answer was hunger.
So......fast for a few days before you hunt next and let us know if it helped. |

RE: What to eat
Cliff bars, there all natural, they fill you up and they smell like soy. Although i dont think the smell thing is a concern unless your sitting up there eating BBQ and having a glass of sweet tea. I guess it would depend on how long im going out and how im hunting. Out west hunting deer and elk, i bring a ton of food. Walking up and down MTNS all day you need energy. Back east in the whitetails woods, i hardly eat if ever.

chewy bars or i take those little bags of quaker oats and just dump them in my mouth and swoosh it with some water

RE: What to eat
I agree with the Cliff bars...or any other protienbar (protien is very effective in combating hunger). If you are concerned with making noise with the packaging, open it at home and wrap whatever you are eatin' in a paper towel.

RE: What to eat
For an all day outing I pack:
PB&Js - natural style PB with apricot jam. Apples - deer love that smell. Granola bars - deer like that smell too. Bottled tap water in 20 oz bottles - doesn't seem to bother them and won't make me jumpy like soft drinks. |
RE: What to eat
My best sammie is a PB&J. I find the jelly and PB gives me a sugar and protein boost. I like to have one sammie, and a couple of health bars with a bottle of water.

RE: What to eat
we(refering to my dad brothers etc)bring a propane portable stove (we make sure its not lowd or that it doesnt let out odor) but we cook ramen, coffee, and hot chocolate around the back of the truck after the hunt or before the hunt and I always bring some nutterbutters, bbq sunflower seeds, cornuts, (lowd though) granola bars, and some water or coke zero I carry it in my backpack when I hunt alone or when I hunt with partner either way I need my food or my stomach will cramp
