The man knows more about deer than I do and is probably a better shot. My gripe with him, and many others, is that he sees NO problem with high fence hunting, baiting, feeding, or anything else as near as I can tell. I just shut off the TV a few minutes ago when a 200" monster walked past one of these nimrods and he did not even get excited. I guess it was not the deer that he bought.

Don't get me wrong, I know that there are places where baiting and feeding are acceptable due to local conditions. I have more trouble with the high fences but I can see where a land owner might want one if the neighbors shot every deer with a nub on its head. (I have heard of a Texas owner who fenced just one side of his property because of the neighbor in that direction.) I would like them to tell me when they are inside of a fenced area rather than pretending that they are great hunters. They are shooters, not hunters.

To me hunting is having an existing knowledge of the land you will hunt and deer movement on that land, getting up in the morning and preparing for the day's weather, checking the wind, then going to find an ambush spot or start a still hunt from there. I am not opposed to cameras that tell you what is on the property, nor am I opposed to permanent blinds, but I feel that hunting is making these decisions for oneself and not knowing the deer personally from pictures. The person who places a blind is the hunter. If you are following a guide, he is the hunter, you are the shooter. All of us do both though, guide and shoot. I've started people hunting just as I was started. I also have learned from a pro. It is just that I feel most like a hunter when I am alone, making my own decisions. Hunting with a partner and a camera is something new for our group though and helps make it all a little more social.

JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN THE WORST !!!!!!! this morning's episode of Larry Weishuhn's show demonstrated to the general public an example of some of the worst our sport has to offer!!.we find our hero,Larryriding shotgun in his guide's bright red dodge pickup truck, and glassing the hillsides from the truck!!after spotting a shooter buck,(from the comfort of a bench seat!)standing in thick brush,"Mr. Whitetail" puts on a four hundred yard "stalk" of epic porportion!.after saying he can only see bits and pieces of the deer through the brush,(and it was thick!) the deer turned broadside.still, all that was visible was a portion of the torso at best, and it was obscured by brush.Larry, with his heavy leather glove crammed into the trigger guard, took a highly unethical shot at what he ASSumed was the deer he had seen from the truck.well guess what??? WRONG!!! turns out,Larry shot a different, much younger and smaller deer than he should have.someone please correct me if i
'm wrong, but isn't that exactly how hunters accidentally shoot each other every season???? any IDIOT knows if you're not 110% positive of you're target,DON'T SHOOT!!!!!!!but then,Larry's not just any idiot,he's on tellyvision!! as if the anti-hunters need any fuel for their fire, we've got this clown acting like their poster boy!!!

I saw that same thing this morning and I agree with you but if half the hunters on this site were there they would have done the same thing.

As for the pistol issue. He is a walking commercial for T/C and most likely shoots what he is told to shoot so he can pay his mortgage.

The only thing that makes these so called "experts" popular is us dumb morons that keep watching the shows. Granted, I like the Versus channel, and watch it regularly because I love deer hunting. But, I'm sick of these clowns that get to hunt places that most of us only dream of. Larry who? Who was he before he hit the TV screen? Just your average deer biologist, till he gets glorified by people that think he is some kind of God, along with Bill Jordan and his crew. I'm sick of watching these dopes glorify and degrade deer hunting by always having to kill bigger and bigger bucksjust to sell videos and get the TV ratings. Deer hunting is so commercialized today that it is becoming something I no longer enjoy.
Damn if I'm going to let some beer belching slob redneck tell me I'm jealous of these self proclaimed expert deer hunters. What makes them experts? If we got to hunt in all these places they do, we would harvest the same deer. Is there anyone out there that thinks they take money out of there pocket to go hunt these places? No, they are invited for the publicity or the TV show pays.
I'll give you a perfect example of what is wrong with deer hunting today. Check out Paradice Hunt Club and the ridiculous prices. I saw this place showcased on the Versus channel. Anyone that would pay this price for hunting a deer is a complete moron. No wonder the anti's think we are mindless, heartless people. It is way out of control, and the more it is supported, the more it will grow. The mags, the shows, the crap they are selling today is mostly a joke or junk that we all by because we want to kill big deer like these idiots.

well said wrossi.
the only way to de comercialise deer hunting is to bring high fences down, and outlaw the sale of whitetail deer, I thought it was outlawed but how are they charging by the size of the deer, isnt that the sale of a deer ?
back in the 70's ranchers here in Texas figured out they could get 10 times more for a buck than a head of cattle, it went downhill after that. But its the people that are willing to pay it, so its really the peoples fault, not the rancher.

Come on, tell us what you really think. I've got to agree with you on most of it, but if you were in their shoes, wouldn't you hunt the places they do?

At least he takes the ear tag off the deer before the cameraman get there. Its tough hunting...sitting in an outhouse over a pile of corn. Yes the illusive whitetail deer. Worth going to college for, and spending your life studying. All so you can miss. Deer hunting is so over blown.
