I used a fanny pack last year, my first year out hunting and I won't wear it again. I am going to have to go to Walmart and check out those small Fieldline back packs that you guys are talking about for only 25 bills. Sounds like a winner if it has the compartments for storing the water bottles.

I've used a cheaper pack for a few years that I paid around $40 for. Not worth the trouble if you are planning on carrying your gear on longer treks to your hunting location. If you can save up a couple more bucks, look at the Cabelas gun and bow pack ( Around a $100 or so ). Lots of storage, internal water reservoir and extremely comfortable with all my neccesaries. A good pack is well worth the extra money. As with everything else youy get what you pay for.

In Iowa we are required to wear blaze orange covering thevest area (torso) while gun hunting deer. I just use my upland vest. The integral game pouch is where I carry spare gloves and socks, toilet paper, drag and other stuff.
I also have made a blaze orange quivver-like case for my shooting stick and three legged stool. Most of the time I'm sitting on the stool in ambush mode but the stool does not inhibit me when I have it accross my back in still hunting mode.

I bought the smallest CamelPak a few years back and wouldn't go without it.
I carry my essentials (bino, knife, food, spare compass, bullets, etc) along with water that won't slosh around.
I can stalk with it in thicker woods or swampy areas and it fits behind my "manly/broad" shoulders, as not to catch on any/most branches, etc.
I use it for bow hunting and just hang it up conveniently.

I started bringing one into the woods last year and don't know how I can live without it anymore. I picked one up at bass Pro last year on sale. I don't walk more than a mile with it so it doesn't have to be super comfortable, just be able to carry my stuff. It was this pack, but last years model. Pretty cheap and holds everything I have.
