It's ridiculous that corn is going up, we already have to much of the stuff, ie high fructose corn syrup.....used in place of sugar in everything! then corn ethanol.....not really much help there, just making corn cost more.

it was just stated on one of the news shows about farm subsidies......a farmer can earn up to 1.5million dollars a year and still qualify for subsidies.....that one needs explaining to me.....IMO there are few areas where we need all these subsidies.....
I dont want to sound like a jerk, but it is not the farmer's fault- They are not making anymore than they usually do with all their rising operationing costs (diesel, fertilizer, etc). It is this stupid ethanol craze- besides how many farmers do you really know that make millions of dollars farming?Alot of the farmers i know arealways barely getting by, and need help with these subsidies..

Thanks bryant for sticking up for farmers. Your right we aren't making that much more money all that has happened is we are dealing with more money. Its actually a lot harder to make money when corn and soybeans prices are constantly going up and down by huge leaps. A guy could go crazy trying to make any sense out of the market.

US Congress just passed the 2008-9 Farm Bill. $300 Billion. Of that amount $40 Billion is for farm subsidies and CRP. Most of the balance is for food stamps and other entitlement programs. The idea behind subsidies is not to make farmer rich (or even to keep them from going broke), it's to make sure the USA dosen't suffer food shortages. And so you don't run out of bait.

Lots of farmers will let you go out in their fields and pick up corn that was missed during harvest. That would be a nice day to spend a Fall day instead of paying a really high price for it.

Around my neck of the woods a 50lb sack runs between 8-9 dollars....I dont buy corn anymore b/c I can buy a protein mix for the same price and the animals get more from it than corn by itself......The protein mix is running about 8.75 a 50lb sack......We start feeding the protein mix in Feb. and feed till Aug on our ranch and it gets rather expensive but in West Texas thats the only way to grow descent deer.....Not too much vegitation there!!!
