Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

So I'm curious how many hunters plan/expect to shoot a monster buck in their lifetime.Let's say monsters begin at...190"+ typical, or 240"+ non-typical?

Also where do you think the next world record typical/ non-typical will come out of and when? How soon?

Well, I hunt where the big one's are so anything can happen. I'll say Northern Missouri, we saw a 160+(Guess) and if it makes it. Who knows might be a Record buck?

I killed a 150 in 87 and a 145+ in 2007 maybe by 2027 it will score 187 3/8[8D][8D]:eek::eek:

Ohio will be the record holder... not only because of me being a homer but the Beatty and Jerman bucks come to mind:D I don't ever plan to shoot a monster buck unless i go on a canned hunt which is highely unlikely. Would i like to, of course, who wouldn't but i'd be happy with a nice 10-12 point to go on the wall, i'm not picky. I wanted to put my first deer on the wall, it was a doe but i figured i'd be laughed at for mounting a doe.

I do not believe that I will kill a 190 class deer but we have killed a Booner at my club in Virginia in the past 10 years so you never know. I am very happy with a 140 or better.

they dont get that big from being dumb. either gonna arrow him before rifle or shoot himon the opening day of rifle.
noturnal deer are the hardest to kill.
there was a 21 pointer living in my back yard. i bowhunted him so hard. found out someone hit him with a car by the time i got to where my dad seen it the head was already cut off.
i just hope to get lucky and try my hardest to find gooddeer sign and hunt the wind.

I was watching this HUGE buck. I saw it a couple of times bow hunting, but never during gun. My neighbor shot it about 200 yards away from my stand on the property line. Went to the taxi to look at it, it scored 195" Man was that a kick in the nuts. But if I didnt shoot it, Im glad he did, cause all my other neighbors around me are A-holes.

I don't really care about killing a monster buck like 99.99% of other hunters dream about. I like killing good bucks, but i seriously doubt i will ever kill anything in the 130s in Florida. Especially running dogs

I am satisfied if I get 1 or 2 does a year.. If a good un walks out I will shoot it thought.. Our neck of the woods a 130 would be just fine for me..

Expect to see one anyway. They are around where I hunt and the 146 I've already shot was a monster to me. I'll try to do my part by shooting does and trying to let the small bucks walk.
I'm not exactly a trophy hunter, I'm a deer hunter. I'll take a monster if it walks by though.

RE: Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

I dont think you can plan to shoot a 190+ unless you hunt a high fenced area or manage a huge chunk of prime property. For most people that hunt in good areas you just never know when a big one is going to walk by, I'm happy shooting a 140+ which has still not happened, would I like to shoot a monster? Yes, who doesnt, but I dont plan on it, it might happen and it might not.

RE: Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

I like many who are regulars have good locations where the monsters certainly roam and often frequent I have been privileged to harvest several 140-180" bucks and I know that there is a 190+ in the area, a guy took a 200 something 4 drop tine buck within a 10 mile radius so I know the genetics are there I fully anticipate to take a monster, it keeps me on my toe's. I think everyone should go out with the mentality of shooting a monster which will make them a better hunter in general. That being said what may be a monster to one may not to another, I remember the day a nice 8 running in the 80's and 90's seemed huge and a dream to me. To some a monster spike may satisfy and deservingly it should, it should be the monster experience we all hope for, the bone is just icing on the cake

RE: Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

I'd like to think so, one of these days. But I feel taking a 190+ class deer isn't going to happen for most of us. We all know it happens but I think the chances are slim and none. I buy two permits a year, I'll get a third this year for muzzleloader. My first shot is to put meat in the freezer. Then I wait them out. If a good one doesn't come along no problem. I'll put more meat in the freezer. I can atleast hope....

RE: Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

Here in the New Hampshire the deer herd is not quite the same as other "antler" states seem to be. There are some successful hunters that connect more than others, but most of us are happy to get anything at all, never mind a monster and I'm sure I can probably speak for 90-95% of the NH hunters. I personaly had a tremendous season in 2007 and managed to harvest a 6 pointer with archery and an 8 pointer with the .44 mag pistol. I also passed on a big doe while stalking with the bow, knowing there was a 16 pointer caught on film. I seem to be honing my skills, as my hair gets grayer and my belly gets rounder. Taking more time for scouting and using trail cameras to find out were the bucks are. I of course want to harvest a monster, which for NH is anything over 140-150". Heck, a 120+" buck is considered real nice.

Everyones problem no matter where you hunt is simple, you have to be patient and willing to pass on small deer until the big bruiser comes around. I personaly am like a kid @ x-mas when I see a deer (doe or buck) and don't know if I have the testicle fortitude to hold out. Kind of like prom night!

190+ inch buck in NH, would have to stand in line with Roger Clemens for his steroid shots! Sorry Mr. Clemens, but your right, we can never erase the claim from that pecker head in the Mitchell report, who claims to have shot you up with the bad stuff - Boston loves you).

Somewhere in this reply is your answer - have a great day, folks,!
Ps - If we click our camo boots together and keep repeating "your in the woods" deer will come...

I don't expect to kill a typical that nets 190 or a non typical that nets 240. I do expect i will kill the monster buck of my lifetime;).So far i have done my best to shoot bucks that are damn close butdon't netit. Every one of them I am extremely proud and thankful for as the score isn't the only measurement! However i truly believe that I will have at least one book qualifing deer on my wall before I hang it up.:D

Typical, myguess is if milo is unseeded it will be a Sask or Alberta buck that does it. NT will come out of the midwest states that keep pumping them out...must be something they put in the soil as wejust don'tsee the freaks that ya'll put out up here.

Having spent most of my hunting life in eastern Texas, my expectations have never been very high for a monster buck, but since I started hunting in NW Oklahoma, I expect to at least "see" a trophy every year. Here is my 2004 muzzleloader buck.

RE: Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

Come on now, how many hunters have ever killed a 190 + class typical? Maybe half of a percent. We would all love to, but it just aint gonna happen to 99.9999% of deer hunters. The best way to get a chance at one is to fork out about 20 grand and pick your buck, which is not hunting. Where I hunt, my property in La., I have a better chance of winning the powerball and get struck by lightning on the same day, than kill a 190+ typical buck. I hate to sound so negative, but we must be realistic if we're going to seriously answer this question. I would be estatic to take a 125-140 class buck, especially on my property. The largest I've taken to date is a 130 inch 8 point and I've taken a lot of deer. Someone on this forum may one day take one. If you do, you better show plenty of pictures.

If I do I do, if I don't I don't, I don't lose any sleep over it either way. The next record buck will come from either Iowa or Illinois, won't speculate on when.

Also where do you think the next world record typical/ non-typical will come out of and when? How soon? It's a bit tough for shooting "book" bucks in our section, we are really concerned with Buck to Doe ratio right now. We have a rule of 5.5 year olds or older. I observe our herd year round from stands in order to "know" just how old the bucks are, so if the older bucks "happen" to be "books" then it will happen, but so far they aren't. My biggest to date is 153 3/8 typical. I have seen a couple in that area, but none bigger. With our work in the habitat restoration and some supplements maybe we can help the antler growth, but herd health is our main concern. This past season, 3 bucks @ 5.5,8.5+, and a 3.5 (7&2 eights) year olds were taken, with 14 doe. Proud to say that nobody mistakenly shot a BUTTON BUCK!!!! Thats just one of the downsides of shooting so many doe (BB mistake).

No i don't expect to shoot a deer that big. There just isn't deer that big around here.I shot a 150" buck and my grampa said it was the biggest deer he had seen taken around here.

I think it will come from Kansas, Illinois,Indiana, or Ohio. My biggest to date is 169 1/8 gross in Illinois I hope to kill a 190 but I will not hold my breath because those are few and far between

I know we have 200" bucks around. I've never seen one but the old Minnesota state record Archery Non Typical was taken 5 miles from my place and another huge non typical also a few miles away was shot in gun season that scored in the 230's. I'd be happy with a 170" buck, I think its a goal I can achieve.

RE: Do you plan to ever shoot a monster buck?

I'm fairly young, if I ever own enough property to manage what I'd like to I'd certainly plan to shoot a 190+ or 240+, that's a few iffs though. Though with more and more people managing property, I can only assume the avg buck size is going to continue to grow. I'm gonna say yes, I plan to, though until then I'd be happy with a 150/160+

Planning on killing a 190" buck is like planning on winning the lottery. You could be waiting for a long time. I've killed several real big deer and in my opinion some of my smaller bucks were more rewarding. Don't let inches of antler drive you. It can drive you to disappointment if you let it.
