Favorite outdoor store?

What store is your favortite place to get hunting stuff and outdoor things?

Cabelas all the way. Great products and customer service.

I prefer Gander Mountain. The BPS here in the Charlotte, NC area is too busy and the sales associates are very rude and not helpful. Gander has a great selection of used guns and friendly sales staff that will give you honest opinions based on what you need and not what is going to help their bottom line.

I picked cabelas because it it my favorite of the large stores, but lets be honest, nothing beats local hunting stores. I would much rather support them than any of the big name stores.

I do most of my purchasing off the internet with Cabelas, MidSouth, then some with Bass Pro. I don't have anything except a lame Diicks Sporting goods near me. I did go to Peoria's Gander Mountain a couple of weeks ago.......what a wasted trip. I would have liked to shoulder a TC Omega, Triumph, and a Savage 10ML for consideration of a future purchase. They didn't have any of those. The best Gander Mountain I've been to is a newer one in Paducah, Kentucky. And there is also a good place called Paducah Shooters Supply. I'll be going thru that way in a month or so, planningto stop there.

This is a great poll. I would say Cabela's out of those big names because they have unreal selection and great customer service, though I would much rather support the local, smaller hometown sporting goods stores.

Gander Mountian is my fav cause you can pick up the guns and look at them freely and they have a lot of great products.

Cabelas.. But since BPS is right down the road I voted for it..

Bass Pro for me. It is close and much better than Gander Mt. or D***'s Sporting Goods. I don't have a Cabelas anywhere close, so that is out.

Academy. Not as good on selection, but on what they have, they beat everyone on price including WalMart.

BPS is a close second. They put a Cabelas in down here, but it is a pretty good drive from where I live north of Dallas to the northern part of Ft. Worth. Too bad; I wouldn't mind spending some money there.

Oh yeah, we have a Sportsman's Warehouse here, but it is shutting down in a week. Got a lot of stuff cheap there.

Of course my absolute favorite store is the one that is running 50% off clearances. :D

Yeah I like Academy also.. You can get some good deals on there. There is one about a mile down the road from my office.. I make regular visits there during the week..

I prefer my local guy. I do buy from basspro sometimes but only when Scott can't get something for me. But usually I just buy it from him. I feel it helps my community to pay a little more from a smaller establishment. Also, I feel that you get much better service from the small town outdoor shops than the "big guys".

There isan Academyon my way home from work and another 15 minutes from work (as well as a BPS and Sportsman's Warehouse 15 minutes away). I stop there sometimes. Last week they were running 50% off of camo, and I can't resist camo. :D

I also drive by a Richards (ie nickname) and a Sports Authority on the way home. With so many sporting goods stores in the area, it bodes well for the sportsman.

Gander and walmart and local shops, when I have a problem with the bow or need something reset I alway end up buying something from the local shop.

Academy is in the southern states. It's kind of like a Walmart for sporting goods. It looks like you are in Ohio....I'm not sure if they have any in Kentucky. When we have chains like ****s or Sportsman's Warehouse come down here, they try to overprice everything, and wonder why they don't do as well as up North. Probably don't do much competitive analysis.

I choose Bass Pro, I like to go to Cabela's too but it's afurther drive. I go to gander also, to find after season hunting clothes on sale. But I think Bass Pro has good deals on their product and things seem to easier to find in their store unlike Cabela's.

I get alot of my crap at Dikc's Then Gander Mountain is where I get my quality stuff...

Word to the wise.... When shopping on the web for christmas stuff.... Do not go to dikcs.com..... Its not what you were looking for..... at all....

Got to be Cabelas. They have great stuff at good prices and great customer service. Got to love them.

I agree with Pikehunter! The BPS in Charlotte NC has poor custome service. While I enjoy the look and feel of the store, it does not compensate for not re-stringing bows, high prices, and very poor service.

Gander Mountain is where I shop. Jimmy James at the bow shop (in Gander Mountain) is an authority on archery. The Guide Series products (their Private Label) is high quality.

If I have to get a bunch of stuff I go to BPS,I would rather buy from the small local guy's but the guy in my area try's to make the money for the week on one sale.

Just yesterday i went and checked out the new Cabela's store in East Hartford, CT. I had never been to a big Cabela's or Bass Pro store before, so it was pretty neat. I didn't buy anything, nor did i plan on it, it was cool just to see all the mounts they have, the gun library, and stuff like that.

Well the reason I picked Bass Pro is because we don't have a Cabelas in Tennesee yet! Although they are supposed to be building one around Nashvilleandit should be done sometime in 09'. I'm sure I might like it better when it gets here!

Right now I will have to go with Gander Mountain, but there is a new Cabela's being built right next to Gander that will open the end of this year and I am sure I will spend more time there.

I like Walden's Outdoor world here in Augusta, GA. They are a local shop that really knows what they are talking about. I also like dealing with locals and they have been really good to me and hook me up. I seem to think that I have a good personal relationship with them and enjoy doing business with them rather than a larger chain. Just my opinion.
