I went to an atlatel shoot and saw they had deer hooves for sale with a stick figure of a person hunting with an atlatel painted on each hoove. The bone had been removed so only the hoove was left. Thanks for any help.

I remove a dewclaw from all my deer to add to my quiver. I suspect the toes would work the same way. The whole process is easier when the foot is fresh. The bones of the foot can be seperated at the joints easily. Cut through the toe above the hoof to the bone all the way around. Give it a twist and the toe should come off. I cut around the top of the hoof itself. I shove a slim, sharpknife blade under the hoof all the way to the tip. I cut all the way around this way. I take a pliers, grab the bone and twist. If I've cut properly, it pops out. Sometimes I have to go back and cut some more until it twists. At that point the hoof is soft and flexible. I let it dry for a week or so till it hardens up.
