RE: What are the pros and cons of hunting?
Once you start, you cant stop. The pros i guess would be that its fun being in the woods before the sun rises and seeing the woods come to life. You dont have to take an animal for the hunt to be fun, just being there is good enough for alot of people. You can hunt and spend time doing it with close friends or perhaps your daughter, son or your grandkids. Im sure others will add alot i left out or just didnt think of. also hunting helps keep the populations in controll so they dont overpopulate and damage the envirement and or starve from lack of food.

RE: What are the pros and cons of hunting?
You may need to go to another website to find any information on the cons of hunting. Personally, I cannot think of any. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
You should definately add something as TREEDOG said about how humans have created a situation in which the balance of animal populations can no longer be controled by predators alone. It is now our responsibility to act as caretakers of the land and take reponsibility for the situation we have created.
The reintroduction of predators as a sole means to control animal populations is no longer an option due to a lack of habitat and negative interactions that can occur between humans and predator populations.
You can talk about the deep tradition hunting has created between family and friends.
You can talk about the billions of dollars sportsmen put into the economy + money from license sales that go to conservation efforts.
You can also add something about the man hours hunters voluntarily put in on wildlife projects that not only help game animals but also help other species.
Good luck with the paper.

RE: What are the pros and cons of hunting?
Here are some cons:
-Its cold out.
-you always have people who are against you and hunting.
-its addictive.
-women don't like the fox urine smell.
-you end up spending all your money on hunting stuff.
-during "the season" you can't stay out late b/c you have to be up on saturday morning by 4:30 b/c that is the one morning a student gets to hunt.
-did i mention its cold out?
"For every dented car with blood and hair, we gain one pro-hunting vote."

Con's,
There are no con's. With todays conservation move and all the organizations that benefit hunting, hunting today is the only sure survival that our animals with thrive.

RE: What are the pros and cons of hunting?
PRO'S:
Some people have asked why I must hunt with the objective of killing the quarry. Why, they wonder, can't I just walk in the woods with a camera and record my encounters with wildlife on film? The answer is simple my friend! To do so is not hunting. A photographer is an observer, a hunter is a participant in the life of outdoor drama. I firmly believe that those of us who chose to hunt are prederators. Let us make no excuses for that definition. Our prehistoric ancestors hunted, and so we follow those traditions. In my view "the chase" is an essential part of my very being, whether its tracking a 10 pointer in powder snow or listening to my teeth chatter in a blind waiting for a flock of geese to drop in on my decoys. Nothing dies easily in the woods. Animals perish, with or without my help. Most of them die violently and painfully, perhaps in the talons of a hawk, in the jaws of a coyote or as a victim of starvation or disease. My kill is quick and humane. Make no mistake, hunting by humans is natural. Man has always hunted. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
I don't rationalize my LOVE of hunting by saying I'm a " wildife management tool" essential to keep some animal population trimmed, nor do I hunt because my money funds wildlife agencies that ensure the propagation of all creatures, be they endangered or legal game. Yes, hunting and the dollars generated by fees and such are helpful to wildlife, but first I LOVE every aspect of hunting with every cell of my body for all the reasons I have just tried to explain! My attempts at explaining it are merely words that mean nothing to those who have never hunted.
If you are a hunter, then you KNOW. We're a fraternity, very definitely in the minority, a collection of people with a never ending LOVE of everything the OUTDOORS offers. We are maligned, cursed at and spat upon. Everyday people try to outlaw our sport. Those souls have NO CLUE what we feel.
I hunt because I exist. And I am, above all,
PROUD TO BE A HUNTER!!

RE: What are the pros and cons of hunting?
I hunt because I love it. Just as the feeling of love is hard to explain, so is the love of hunting. I spend hours reading about deer, thinking about deer and discussing deer with my friends. I know I am never so alive as when I am in the woods. Yet it's a time of great peace. One of the few peaceful times I enjoy in an otherwise hectic life. While hunting I feel at one with nature. I realize that I am a predator, much as God originally created man to be. I do not glory in the death of an animal, but do realize that animals will die that I may live. I take tremendous pride in my skill and ability to bring home meat for the table, much of which I process myself. Yet I enjoy the challenge of hunting with a bow the most, where the odds favor the animal. I see many deer. I harvest only a few, but I have many memories. Memories of the deer and other wildlife I have seen and the experiences I have shared as I hunt with my friends and family. Finally, I hunt because I know it's necessary for proper wildlife management. I know that I and other hunters like me have provided the funds to pay for the great resurgence of wildlife in this country. I know that I am a conservationist and a major tool of game management. I am proud to be a sportsman! I am proud to be a hunter!
