Hi all. I am from the north eastern part of IN and was wondering about rattling. I been deer hunting all my life and have never used any calls or anything. I have a set of antlers from a previous buck and thought about rattling. I seen a buck the other day, but could not get him to come out for a shot. This weekend is the last weekend for firearms season in In, unless you own a ML. So this will be my last shot. Any tips, secrets, etc. Thanks.

Anything is worth a try..One things for sure, you'll never know if you
don't try it..Let me know how you make out..If your hunting from a tree
stand don't do anything that will cause the deer to look up at you..
Such as hang a sent pad in your same tree..Best of luck to you..

don't overdo it. I go about 30 seconds total, start with a few light ticks, then a few seconds of heavy rattle, then some light ticks. try to emualte a buck fight...some light ticks then big hits while getting engaged and locked in, adn then some tick sounds while locked in wrestling, then a quick hit during the release, then its over. Space rattles about 30 minutes apart, try not to do it near the time of loud sounds that would normally throw deer off like really close dog barking, shots, low flying planes, etc.
if it works, be ready for quick shots as the deer will come in quick and nervous, andmay move through just as quick.

Thanks for the advice. I will be giving it a try this this weekend and will let you know how it turns out. I also heard to tie a string on to them and hang them from my stand and let them lay on the ground rattle them that way from the stand so they dont see you and it is more realalistic with leaves and ground level.

I hunt in SE LaGrange, bucks seem to be done chasing does heavily...not sure if you want to rattle this late in the year.
My buddy has had crazy sucess rattling mid october until early november. Two years ago hewas rattling acrossed a field from me, and two nice bucks came shooting out of a thicket right in front of me, the bigger one is now on my wall. [8D]
Myself, I have much better luck with a combination of the can call and a grunt tube in October/November. You may try a can call to get some bucks interested, but it's about time to start hunting food sources again.

Oh yeah, I hunt in Wabash county and Grant County. Looking for a spot in huntinton county that is closer to home. I dont like to go to public land..Way to populated around here. I am debating on where to go for sat. morning..in wabash there is a farm we hunt with a very small woods, but the past couple times i have been there I seen nothing. My dad went there when I was at work and shot a nice doe. Said he seen 20 some deer that day with 2-3 bucks. My dads house in grant county, well its more of woods, surrounded by talls grass, weeds, corn fields, etc...I shot a doe at my dad last weekend, and i think i seen a buck, but couldnt see its head to well. It was in a thick brush field, but never came out...just stomped around in the field....So I dont know...I guess we'll see where my dad wants to hunt this weekend.

I USE THE SNORT-N-WEEZE,LIL CAN,TRU TALKER GRUNT,ANTLERS AND THE EASY-WEEZE ALL VERY EFFECTIVE IF YOU USE THEM AT THE RIGHT TIME.I SEEN TWO BUCKS COME OUT AND I HIT THE ANTLERS A FEW TIMES,NO LUCK,THEN I HIT THE CAN 3 TIMES AND BOOM THEY COME A RUNNIN I GRUNTED WHEN THEY GOT ABOUT 50YARDS CLOSER TO STOP THEM.ONE WAS 6 POINTER AND THE OTHER WAS A NINE POINTER.I LET THEM WALK AND ENDED UP WITH A NICE 11 POINTER 4 DAYS LATER.WHEN YOU SEE ADOE AND IT'S RUT LET THEM WALK CAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THAT MONSTER IS CHASING IT.I WAS YOUNG I WAS TAGGED OUT IN TWO DAYS.I'V SHOT AT DOES AND SEEN BIG BUCKS RUN AFTER I SHOT AND IM SURE OTHER HUNTERS ARE AWARE OF THAT.WHEN YOU SHOT THAT DOE THAT PROBABLY WAS A BUCK BEHIND IT BUT YOU TAKE YOUR CHANCE'S.YOU CAN ALSO TRY OUT A GROUND BLIND.I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THE GROUND BLIND.IN MY OPINION IT IS VERY EFFECTIVE.LOVE MY GROUND BLIND AND WOULD FEEL NAKED HUNTING WITHOUT IT.HOPE YOU KILL,KILL,KILL THIS WEEKEND,GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW HOW YOUR WEEKEND WENT.THANKS SB4

Yeah, I have hunted out of all sorts of stands, blinds, huts, etc. I watched my does for about and hour as she just hungout with a few others as they fed. She did not appear as anything was fallowing her and I think I gave her enough time. I personally too love a ground blind, as a fear of falling out of a treestand. I want to purchase a tri-pod stand with a blind on it. Thanks for the advice, will let you all know how this weekend goes.
