My friend i and another friend went hunting. My first friend set up at the top of the field and i was at the middle and my other friend was at the bottom of the field. My first friend shot first missed then i missed then my other friend missed the does. 2 of em. But after all of us shot the one deer layed in a thicket about 40 yards from me and so we got down and the other doe was standing with it. we walked towards them and the one jumped up and they both took off. o and when we were walking in we saw a 4 and a monster 8 and a doe this was my first shot at a deer and i missed iam so disgusted.[:@]

Are you sure the doe didn't bed down because one of you shot it and didnt realize it?

it bedded and i watched it and it looked to be limping but my friend was already yelleing and screaming did you hit it? and the other doe just stared at the one on the ground ad the one on the ground was weezing.

That reminds me of one of my first hunts. Shot at the deer 4 times before she looked at me and ran off. Don't let it get you down. Go to the range and see where your shooting. Then get back out there. 1 question though. What guns are you using?

It sure does sound like that deer was hit...Never assume you missed until you've looked the area over very well for any sign of blood or hair...If a deer beds down 40 yards from you after you have shot at it something isn't right with that animal...Always follow up on your shots.

1. First things first. You had way too many people on that field. If you could all see the same area you needed to set up differently. There is no reason for 3 people to hunt one field so heavily. I would be nervous hunting that close to another person just for safety reasons. Also, if 2 does came out in the field, then chances are there were bucks in the area. You could have positioned yourselves so one person was in a wooded funnel 200 or so yards from the top of the field. One person in a wooded area 200 or so yards from the bottom of the field. And yourself overlooking the field. Your friend's would have probably seen the buck staging right off of the field and gotten a shot at him.
2. Take one shot and wait to see what the animal does. Just because it starts to run doesn't mean you missed. If you hit it once it's going to go down. Shooting it again just ruins meat.
3. If a deer beads down within 100 or so yards from where you took a shot at it then you probably hit it. By rushing out to it all your going to do is bump it further. You should give it at minimum 30 minutes before leaving your stand to go see. Your friend should have known this and not come rushing in yelling. He just bumped your deer that you could have let die and just walked out to clean.
4. A deer doesn't weez for no reason and obviously you saw it limping away sooo why don't you have it in the freezer? You need to go back to the spot where you saw it beaded down and look for a blood trail. You didn't mention this at all in your post. When I say look for a blood trail I mean any ounce of blood means you need to track that deer.
5. You and your buddies need to go to the range and sight in your rifles. If I pull the trigger I know where it's going to hit from 25 yards out to 225 yards. Why go hunting if you don't know where you’re aiming. It doesn't make sense to me. Even if you borrowed the gun take 1 hour out of a day and go rough sight it in at least to a 2" group at 100 yards. Think about it if your 1" to the right at 25 yards then you could be at least a foot or more at 100 yards (somebody help me with the math on that).



Putting all of this together you have one thing you need to do NOW. and two things you need to do before your next hunt. Now you need to go look for a deer. Before your next hunt you need to get a map from google or other map engine and plot out a better game plan for set up. Also, you need to go get framiliar with your rifle and sight it in.


I'm not blasting you by any means just put this in your head do these things learn from your hunt and your next hunt will be even more enjoyable. Part of my hunt that makes it so much fun is the planning. Then the anticipation of putting that plan to work is like Christmas morning.

Good luck finding your doe. Oh btw she's probably waiting for you about 50 yards from where you bumped her.

Yeah me too! I was shooting dead center all day at the range. The following weekend I shot twice at a buck before he finally just walked away. I was just sick over it. Buck fever I guess.
