Hornady 140 gr. BTSP .270
I was recently given a new .270 and Saturday will be my first real hunt with it. I bought some Hornady 140 gr/ Boattail Softpoints to hunt with, but shortly after buying them I did some research and found out that the .270 was built around the 130 gr. bullet. They shoot paper good out of my rifle and I will use the rest of the box but I was just wondering how they did on game.
Has anyone had any experiance with this ammo or should I change over to 130 gr. Federal Sierra Gamekings?

I've got no experience with a .270, but I used Hornady's 150 gr. softpoint boattails out of my '06. Very accurate, but I had a lot of trouble with them fragmenting on impact on deer. They'd blow up on a rib going in and the shrapnel would do the damage. I went back to spire points and have had no problems since.

I have boxes of the 140 gr bullets and loads and I can tell you that they retain more down range energy than the 130 gr bullets and are deadly on whitetails.
One of my rifles is sighted in for 140 gr bullets only and it shoots bullseyes all day long at 200 yards.
Speed isn't always the best thing for a deer rifle.
The 130 gr bullets fly faster, but they are not any better than the 140 gr bullets.

Thanks for the replys guys. I have Read several reviews saying that the bullet separated on impact and others that say every deer they have shot was DRT. That is what I am looking for DRT. I know that there is no majic bullet that will always drop them but a well constructed one helps. And if the deer do run off I have no problem tracking.
