What is your opinion on hunting shows

RE: What is your opinion on hunting shows
Nearly all of them have become nothing more than one long commercial attempting to sell me yet another useless gadget or service that I don't need, so I just stopped watching them entirely. I can't stand to watch some yahoo at a high fenced "no kill-no pay" cage farm act like they're really hunting anyway.

I was so frustrated with the direction most hunting shows and videos had gone that I started my own production company to show what I wanted to see! Sometimes you just have to do it yourself if you want it done right I guess! he he he....

RE: What is your opinion on hunting shows
I tell you what I think - most of today's hunting shows are terrible. Whatever happened to Steve Bartkowski and his show back in the day that was more about honoring God and nature as opposed to the kill? I came across this one show over the weekend that made me sick - some guy on there saying, "Something's gonna die today." Classless. I would not watch that show if I was paid per episode.
it is exactly that type of attitude that causes anti-hunters to think you and I are simply murderers. To me, hunting is much more about the experience, the land God created and the animals - and especially the memories made with close family and friends while in camp and in the field.
"Something's gonna die today" is a great way to make all of us look like ignorant killers with no appreciation for whitetails and their habitat. I wish I had that guys address and I'd show him what 16 inch guns look like up close.

for the few I watch it is comes down to entertainment only. Most of them push their sponsors products so much it gets annoying and they make you believe you need to have all this stuff to get a deer.....we all know 95% of hunting is luck and the other 5% is good marksmanship. Outside of that there isn't much else you need
but they do past the time

RE: What is your opinion on hunting shows
I believe that hunting shows, as also with hunting magazines, are dominated by the commercial interests that fund the shows. You won't see many hunting shows discussing some sage hunting veterans engaged in a do-it-yourself hunt on public land. Almost invariably the hunt focuses on some guided/outfitted hunt -- with the address and phone number of the guide/outfitter prominently displayed at the end of the program -- and often on a private ranch. I have precious little use for these nearly paid advertisement programs. As I said, I feel that most articles in hunting magazines are less about hunting and more about selling product than anything else. You who have read these magazines over the years, you judge my statement. It seems things have changed over time -- maybe over the past 20 years -- so the equipment and the more expensive equipment in particular tend to be much of the focus of the feature articles. I've let my outdoor magazines expire for this reason. I don't need to read anymore commercials that I have paid for with my subscription. Just call me cynical.

Totally stupid. When they have the deer of a lifetime right in front of them, they talk alot, and move around alot, but the deer don't run at all. But deer in reality will run when you blink. Something isnt right with them.

I agree with you 100%. The shows and magazines are nothing but commercials for products. Years ago you used to be able to pick up a magazine and read about a real hunting adventure. Those days are long gone. It has all become a sort of hunting pornography. Many hunters are rightfully offended by how hunters are depicted in these videos, and how people will just see us as a bunch of brainless bubbas. I guess there are plenty of brainless bubbas who hunt because there seems to be more and more shows produced every year and hardly any of them show hunting in a positive fashion. If they weren't being watched by hunters they wouldn't be airing as many as they do. Many of us wonder why hunters are looked at in such a bad way, but all we have to do is watch some of these shows along with those who seem to enjoy them for an honest answer! Really frightening when you stop and think about it!
