Point Of my original post was that your buddy came in here throwing pictures around and very little info about anything( happens all the time in here) therefore assumed SALES PITCH. Then you came in quoting me, when i even explained my line of thinking in my original post oh well. (he never posted here before or introduced himself or gave any info about himself or the deer exept hey my buddy plans on hunting this one all year) typical sales add on here. Also deer dont grow that big on genes alone so stop defending that they do. I have no problem with ya, just dont act like the deer in the pic is just on a property with a fence around it and a food plot, cause it is alot more complicated than that is'nt it.

It is on a 4200 acre place with a pellet protein feeding program with a high fence around it... no cross fences.

That's it.

We have never introduced genetics, done any sort of artificial breeding, trapped deer and bred them to 20 does etc etc...

They are all native deer. Both of those deer were born in the wild on this ranch.

"Rifle Managed native genetics" is kinda the phrase that best describes it.

This isn't one of those put and take deals... I don't raise them in a pen and release them later to shoot like I'm sure you thought I did.

It's just an intensely managed Brush Country ranch with brush country deer on it and supplimental feed.

That's it.

It is just so pointless to waste time arguing about the same thing time and time again. Congrats on your operation. Congrats to those who choose not to hunt by that particular method. I just dont get why everyone is SOOOOOO obsessed with antlers. I say both groups should crack a beer and eat some straps...

Hello Mr. Barrett,

When I first saw those pictures the other day I sent a private message to your buddy asking what county that deer was in and if the ranch was planning on selling that deer on a hunt, at the time I didnt know the pictures where taken on the Las Racias ranch. We've got a place outside of Freer and I know your ranch is well known for big bucks. This past year at the Cola Blanca banquet I sat next to Rick Friedrich as he was their accepting an award for his monster buck and I was their because of a deer I killed. Anyway we talked about his deer and he told me the story and also about the buck he was thinking about hunting this up coming season. It looks like I'll be seeing several nice bucks on the contest leaderboards that came from your place. We are personally seeing alot of BIG bucks and some major improvements on some deer compared to last year. Mother nature sure was good to us down here in south Texas this year.

I saw on your webpage you where asking what people thought this deer would score...I first had him at around 233" but after looking at those other pictures I wouldnt be suprised if he went in the mid 240"s which sounds unreal when talking about a free ranging south texas buck, but looking at the big buck they killed on the Junco last year and that big deer killed on the King Ranch several years back, I know your buck has both of them beat. And both of those bucks scored well over 220". I would love to have a frontal picture of that buck if you ever get the chance to take one...Good luck this season and I look forward to seeing these deer on the leaderboards in the next few weeks

If it started in the middle of the property and the 4,200 acres is a square the deer would be able to run a little over 1 1/2 MILES before it got to a fence. That's 1 1/2 MILES through thick brush that you can see about 100 yards maximum if you are ina relativelyopen area.

If the deer was in one corner of the property and ran in a line to the other corner of the property it could run for close to 4 MILES before it ran face first into the high fence. I doubt any deer is going to run through thick brush for more than 1/2 mile through that kind of brush before it is safe from any pursuer whether it be man or beast.

P.S. - I've never hunted a high fence property and don't know if I ever will but I don't have any problem with those that choose to. It is not like shooting ducks on a pond by any means.

Mbruizer: I am sorry I did not introduce myself first. I was not aware of this etiquette requirement. My name is Ed. I grew up in San Antonio, TX and my buddy Marko and his dad taught me to hunt when I was a kid. We had a great time, especially when laughing at my brother's complete incompetence at hunting - such as when he fired 3 shots at his first deer, and every single shot hit the top crossbar of the same gate that was between us and the deer sometimes I think he did that on purpose in order to not shoot the deer. Anyway, since then I went to college, worked as an aerospace engineer, went to business school and founded a manufacturing company. Now I live in Reno, NV. Nice to meet y'all.

When Marko showed me the photos of these deer I was very impressed and asked him if he had posted them anywhere. He said he did not intend to. I thought that people would be amazed at these deer and frankly was just curious what the reaction would be. I asked him if he would mind if I posed them somewhere. He said he did not mind. Not being part of the online hunting community I asked where the best online community was and this was the site he suggested. This was not intended to be an advertisement and Marko even requested that I not post the ranch website. I just thought people would enjoy looking at the deer.

For those of you bashing high fenced hunting, it shares no similarity with shooting ducks on a pond.On a 4200 acre ranch, the deer has as good of chance evading hunters in a high fenceas it would if the fence was 4 ft. As the owner of a 3000 acre high fenced ranch in Bee County, TX and a 7000 acre high fenced ranch in Dimmit County, TX, I know.On my 7000 acre ranch, many deer may never see a fence, much less feel "trapped" by it. The home ranges of deer are typically 1000 to 2000 acres, sometimes much less. You high fence haters seem to have the idea that high fenced hunting is taking a vehicle and driving through a small pasture without a tree on it and taking your pick of ear tagged bucks. Not hardly. Get informed and then talk. Not all hunting preserves consist of hundreds of unhealthy neglected animals crammed into a tiny muddied up pig sty while some blood thirsty killer has his way. In fact, very few do, and I myself do not condone those operations. We also supplementally feed 20% pellets year round. I didn't realize it was a crime to allow the deer herd to reach its genetic potential...news tome.We have never brought in deer with enhanced genetics either.A high fence on a large property simply allows you to intensely manage the herd. Therefore, keeping numbers and ratiosin check and the herd healthy takes precedence. Keeping a natural age structure with equal numbers of bucks in all age brackets is important as well. Once again, high fencing is not illegal; it is at the discretion of the landowner. I believe if you want to put in the effort to intensely manage a deer herd, a high fence seems plausible unless you can coordinate a group of landowners and compile tens of thousands of acres of land under one management scheme, something very difficult to accomplish. For those of you who hunt smaller properties with 4 ft fences and those of you who do not have either the resources and/or the desire to manage the deer herd, more power to you. You are the backbone of the hunting community. However, nobody needs anybody telling them where and how to hunt. If it is legal, go for it. In a world with PETA and other similar organizations gaining influence every day, we hunters should stick together.
