I don't know, usually, more than one deer will enter a field, and you sorta' pick the best one you can find, I guess, can't say for sure, though, since I have only hunted late season and got skunked.
I do know that on opening day ofSpring Turkey season, we shoot anything with a beard, because we really don't have a reason to be picky, we just want to not get blanked out the whole season. Just wantto killsomething, and maybe get picky from there, but with Turkey Season, it's kinda' more like shooting any Tom,will bring more turkeys in, since it'll be one less dominant turkey warding off all the others, so after the Tom is shot, others will come and fight overhis harem, and his territory.

to tag it and bag it.
Nobody could justify shooting a deer because their family needed the meat. You could make more just by going to work and buying it in the grocery store.

So I havn't got a clue if I'm saving money or not..I'd only be guessing...
But i would go as far to say, if I bought 200lbs of deer from a grocery store I'd probably break even.......
Lets face it, it Venison or any other type of wild game, wouldn't go cheap.........

Ifone doesn't mind ingesting steriods and dies and everything else that goes intodomestic animals beef, pork, lamb, etc than I guess you could make some sense into what your trying to say...
However, I want me and my family to live long healthy lives and it all starts with eating right and living healthy..
That means getting exercise hunting, and shooting animal that has quality meat not something that forced to lay around all day and do nothing but get fat quickly........
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.....THERE IS TRUTH TO THIS...
Saving money means nothing to me if I'm dead of a heartatack from eating domesticated animals.

I like to hold off on a buck openingweekend of the Wi gun season. But if a big old doe or wounded deer happens to come wobbling along, its best to take them out. But usually try to take a buck first. Antler size to me during the gun season doesnt matter to me, you cant eat the antlers anyway.

Is this on the same land you bow hunt and practice "quality management" on? If so, why would your standards be different for gun season than bow season?

I do not, but do know some that will. Come firearms season, I have already been bow hunting for almost two months, and this has a lot to do with what I would and would not take. I will not take any littlens, but have no problems taking a mature doe just about anytime.

Well I'll be honest, First deer that walks into the crosshairs gets it. Unless it has spots. I drive 4hours one way to hunt 2 days, then 2 weeks later do the same thing for 3 days. I don't bow hunt and I don't hunt Sundays usually, unless I go out for a couple of hours. I like to head home by about 10am on Sunday. If I harvest a deer the first season then I'll bemore selective for the second season.........On the other hand I've been known to come home emtpy handed too.
