I sat in my tree stand on opening day (Monday) and freezed my butt off for a while. At 8:05 I tried the grunt call. 10 minutes later I catch movement over my right shoulder. Very tough position for a right handed shooter. It was a buck. I counted points which would be easier if the deer would stand still. Luckily he was headed right for me. I twisted around and got into position. He got into a small clearing at about 50 yards. The 300 Weatherby barked and the Barnes XLC bullet entered at the top of the base of the neck, in between the shoulders and diagonally through the chest. It exited on the bottom of the ribs on the other side. The deer dropped in its tracks and that was all she wrote.

Thanks for the kind words. White Oak Lodge is what he call our cabin. My dad's been collecting white oak acorns from Valley Forge Park, raising them until they are saplings and planting them up there. The land was lumbered many years ago and now there are no oak trees. Just beech, maple, hemlock and cherry. He's planted over 250 oaks in the last 10 years. That's how we got the name. The little guy wasn't at camp. He'll see the pictures, though.

The little guy's been to the camp but he's going to have to wait another 11.5 years to participate. I have a doe tag to fill on Saturday. That will be secondary to pushing the bush for the other guys. If I see one I'll take it but my main concern will be helping the other guys.
