You've said a mouthful...

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Takedown....I think they are just jealous that it's legal to bait here in NC...:)
|
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Well for alot of hunters..it almost primal. Many people see or hear about a deer or other animal that was hunted and killedand automatically compare it to the deer they shoot, and wonder if theirs is thelesser...Sometimes without even meaning to. Hunters can be some veryjealous people that suffer from a bruised ego when they have been "out-done" by another hunter. A common reaction is to denounce another person's feat in order to compensate for the frustration that he has seccumb to. Whether it be another hunter's meathods, ethics, or material posessions. Humans have the tendency to alwayswant more than they have. Hearing about a buddy that received the newest, baddest rifle for Christmas and shot a 14-pointer with it the next day, can acctually drive some hunters to fits of jealousy, and invy, whether they will admit it or not. That is one of the reasons that so many hunters constantly bicker and argue with one another. If you also notice, there are some rather unsavory people that frequent these forums that will be the first to lash out at another for doing something wrong...as if to always police another person's actions. Also, many people have the quick draw to call someone out as a liar before they have even gathered all of the information. There are alot of intelligent, decent people on these forums that have been a great help to me, and others. As for the above mentioned...get a grip on yourself!!!:)

Jelousy!!!!!

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Most hunters are bonded together for preservation of the cause. Its just a casethat most hunters like to rib each other and the other, much smaller piece is that there are jack@$$ who hunt as well.

Jelousy1 Thats all it is!

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Because they all want to be the BEST.
I am happy for all of my fellow hunters. I am always learning from hunters much better than me. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I'd really like to be able to say something and not get accused of something. If you think you are better than me all I gotta say is I don't care. I do my best at everything if thats not good enough for you than just shutup. people have no respect for people with less than a hundred posts which is insane because if you go try to get 100 then they criticize you for just trying to up your post count.

Dont me raggin on us Minnesooootans ! I think I would have to rag on anyone from NC that Baits. What fun is hunting if you bait them and just wait until they are hungry for what you put out ?

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I think it men in general, not just hunters. Part of it's trying to show who is the "pack leader". I think it's also a matter of "steel sharpens steel". Mental and verbal joisting makes each other sharper and better able to perform whatever it is you're trying to get done (e.g. kill and bring home the meat to family). I've heard that surveys show that more women are attracted to fellows that hunt than those who don't. Sorry any of those guys who golf.
Oh, and women who hunt, I think are sexy.;) |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Some here may not understand what I'm about to say, but it has to do with a deep seated sense of inadequency. A sense of "what if I don't live up to others standards", "I have to do what others are doing", etc.....
Fools following fools if you ask me. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
It's the off season. People have post hunting depression. They are bored and irritable.
|
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
takedown, well said, there are enough outsiders against us, trying to end our hobbie or for most, our obsession. We need to unite, not fight.
I believe a majority of the problem comes from our inherant envious, jealous nature. You see someone with a bigger buck, you try to find fault. It makes our selfs feel better about our short commings. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
It might be jealousy butI think part of it is rage because they don't approve of some hunting methods. I can tell you thatI hate bigshots thatbrag about their deer but don't practice fair chase(I won't giveinsight as to my beliefs, please). I'm not jealous of that kind of a kill, it just pisses me off. You guys all think that it's just jealousy but sometimes it's not atall.I also believe that when you're traeted lesser you tend to try and prove yourself.
Those who shoot big deer also consider themselves better. That trophy doesn't mean a thing to me if you can't appreciate more than the competition or the rack. I don't neccesarily think all hunters with a big rack on the wall are more skilled, they just getluckier sometimes . Also, if you're experienced and can't encourage the overall fun of the sport by sharing politely and putting yourself at others levels, then don't bother talking. Because you're a veteran doesn't make you the alpha. I love this site for sharing and discussing. We should all treat each other as friends. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I'm not checking this topic again so don't bother starting anything:D
|
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
outdoors, I understand about fair chase, but my take is, if someone has the money and they want that and can live with that , then its their decision.
Now I am not a fan of spotlighters, and there are a lot of them. One kid last year that is a known bragger, know it all. He shot a big non typical. word has it he spotlighted in pulling into his hunting property with his headlights, pulled out his shotgun and shot it. Then waited until daylight, shot 2 shots and started hollering. One guy that helped him drag it out said it was cold and stiff for only being shot 45 minute prior. When he asked what that early shot was the guy said he shot at a coyote. Now that chaps my butt, but he will get his own, karma is a "B" and it will come around. I just mind my business and let it all work itself out. |

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
It's human-nature. People like to b*tch, that's all. Arrows, broadheads, bows, camo, big bucks or small. And that's just bowhunting! I go on airgun websites and see the same exact things.I see it happen with bowfishing, (recurves vs. compounds, spincasts vs. retrievers), on the roads, with how different people drive (my wife and I drive TOTALLY different, but when we talk to each other about it, we both have very good reasons for why we drive the way we do). People generally just like to disagree.
I think alot of it is cowardice. If someone was standing face to face with alot of these 'disgruntled' posters, I bet they would word their post/answers alot differently than they do. It's easy to say alot of crap when your sitting behind your keyboard safe at home 100's of miles away from the guy you're judging or insulting. Personally, I don't post too much that can be argued about. I know what works for me, and I know where I hunt and if I want to change something, I'll change it. If not, I'll leave it alone. I don't care what someone in Backwoods Mississippi or Frostbite Minnesota thinks about it. If I want to shoot a big bodied buck with a small 6-point rack, I will, or if I want to 'waste' all my either-sex tags on does, I will. But I know it would start an arguement with somebody if I posted something about it here,so I won't. And BTW, the only reason I would think someone is lucky for shooting big deer is because they're lucky enough to have the property that holds them to hunt on. I wouldn't necessarily think they're 'better' than me by any stretch. I think I'm a good hunter, having gotten myself within bowrange of moredeer this year than any other previously. The problem I have with getting close to bucks is that the land I hunt is public-land and has been for decades. The bucks and older deer are mostly all nocturnal, because of the heavy amount of human traffic in the area. You can see some really nice bucks out in the fields at night when you drive by, and you'll get a glimps of one here and there during the rut, but that's about it. Just because I can't get close to them doesn't mean they aren't in there, or that I can't get close to them on my own. If I had exclusive access to the area, I bet I'd see alot more bigger bucks because I know where to look for them at. I would never try and take away something from someone that shot a nice big buck on private land. My hat'soff to you guys, and if I could do it, I would. But don't go putting mine down because it's something you wouldn't have shot. If I shot it, it was good for where I hunt and it was what I wanted to shoot. I didn't shoot it for you anyway. |

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I'm jealous, I'll admit it but I don't rip on someone else who has done it because how does that benefit me? Willthat make me feel better, no. I've seen some pretty nice comments on here for the most part.
One day I will hit the foot hills of Montana with my Mule deer/Elk tag though! |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
A lot of the problems arise from hunters being brought up hunting with different legal methods of hunting. You have die-hard bowhunters (both long bow and compound), rifle, shotgun, and muzzle loaders. From that you have dog hunters, man drive hunting, legal baiting (including corn, sex lures, food plots, etc), legal enclosures, stands in the woods or food ploters. Some people just can't accept hunting unless it is the way they hunt.

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
To me...it's a simple answer to your question. Many think that they know everything and cannot look outside their little world.
Things are different all over. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I am puzzled why people feel the need to rip on one another.I would guess typically it is either out of a feeling of inadequacy or a need to defend what they have always done. I am pretty set in my ways but I do have an open mind.If someone can demonstrate in a considerate manner why I may want to see something differently I respect that and I am all ears.
And as a couple of others have stated,if someone is consistently killing big deer legally luck is a very small part of that equation.Luck is where hard work meets opportunity. |

I don't neccesarily think all hunters with a big rack on the wall are more skilled, they just getluckier sometimes . Since all my hunting clothes was still back at my parent's house in Ohio, I hunted in long johns, jeans, Wolverine steel toe work boots, long sleeve shirt, an old denim coat with a collapsable $10 Cabela's orange vest over top and an orange stocking cap. I'm pretty damn sure I was the least professional/experiences looking hunter in the woods that day walking in, but when I dragged out my buck, I think I looked a little better... that is until I put him across the back of a 2-door cavalier ;) The only reason I even saw him was because someone/something must have spooked him because he ran into my field of view frequently glancing backwards over his shoulder as he was running perfectly broaside to where I was sitting. He slowed to a walk directly in front of me not more than 40 yards out and the only part that involved even the least bit of skill on my part was my shot which punctured both lungs and hit his heart as well. If anyone were to ask me the difference between myself and any other hunter in the woods that same day, it would be luck, 100% luck and nothing more. For me to claim superior hunting ability and skill would be as ridiculous as a powerball winner claiming they won based on numerical picking skills! ![]() PS. the blood-stained cavalier in the background is the one I mentioned that I drove him through downtown Des Moines on. You'd be amazed the looks you get when you're driving a buck (or a doe this year) through Des Moines at about noon on Saturday! Everything from flipped the bird to fist pumps with fist pumps out-numbering middle fingers by a slim margin. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I personally think it's because we're mostly men and we each want to be the alpha male.:D

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
The one point that has been pasted over here so far is that some of these morons need ripped on!
How many threads did you read this year about tree stands being stolen? How about trespassers? Piss poor shots taken? These aren't golfers people , they are your fellow hunters! Admit it there are some real butt wipes that call them selves hunters.I don't know how many places on here I have read that we hunters need to stick together , and stand up for each other. That is B.S. ! If you are out and see some one being a jerk say something to him, don't come on here and tell us what a jerk you saw,do something about it. We have controlof the sport we love & if we are afraid to stand up to the ones ruining for all we will all lose. It only takes one stupid move to get a farm posted. All the good done in the past fails in comparison to the last act of stupidity the guy before you has done ,it can be as foolish as leaving a gate open or to riding a quad across a Field to retrieve a deer.Show some respect and some thanks! And last ,if you know a buck was poached then turn the guy in and testify against him in court ,if not then congratulate him take his picture and be proud of what he did. Spreading rumors is like spreading manure , both stink when you get some on you!!!!!!![:'(] |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
It's just the way it is ripping on someone, or poking fun, joking, ribbing that's a part of hunting. Now what i mean is you and a buddie or wife or whoever are hunting together. For intance a buddie of mine and myself were hunting Ducks sitting on the side of a hll and Ducks came through he shot and hit one of my decoys cause when he rasied his gun to shoot he slipped down the hill. I told him that he could have that decoy for his next child as a baby rattle. And He would give me sh** if I missed a shot. It goes back and fourth that way.
Now I havn't been on this site long and havn't seen to much of people being negative but i am sure it happens. But if someone is going to post something on here I hope you know that everyone has their own opinions some might be good ones to you others might not be to you. And their own ways of doing things we are all different people. So dont take it to heart if someone dissagrees with your ways that's only adding fuel to the fire. We all have something in common and that's hunting. I can say right now Thank you to everyone who has giving me good advice and to everyone Good Luck!!!!!! in your next hunt. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I didn't say that I hated hunters who shot bigger deer than me. It's those that consider themselves better that I hate. Don't get cocky once you shoot the big one. I'm not saying that he's cocky, but look at Tony Lovstuen. He shot the world record deer on his first deer hunt if I remember right. Does that make him a better hunter? I don't think so. He just got lucky. I am happy for him, however. From what I've heard, he's a pretty nice kid.
Anyone who has a trophy buck and doesn't rub it in your face is a person to be proud of. I for one encourage and congratulate anyone who works for and doesn't brag about their deer. They deserve it. Those who buy their deer or talk like bigshots when they shoot big deer are nothing but losers. I won't congratulate them. If you do get lucky(or knowledgeable)and get a big one, I am more than happy for you. Don't talk like the alpha andI'll be proud of your success. We are all on the same level. We're all human beings and deserve credit for trying. God bless and happy hunting to all!!! |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
I think alot of it has to do with the anonymous nature of these Internet forums. People sometimes write thingsthatthey would never say to someone's face. That canlead to some wide-open debates where deep-seated beliefs are challenged by those who share a similar passion. When beliefs collide, sparks fly, whether it's between hunters or golfers or whatever. I think it can be healthy to have your beliefs challenged once in awhile.
I don't agree with everthing that I read here, and someof it is downright idiotic. But more often than not Ifind helpful, friendly folks willing to share their knowledge.I want to be the best hunter I can, and this is oneway to sharpen my skills when I'm not in the woodsor at the range. And some of you are just damn funny.... |

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Its all based on ones opinion. We all have them. So everyones opinions don't always co-mingle well. So therefore the ripping starts.
Jealously has some affect on it. But people never have and never will be able to exist in harmony. I have other things I do and in those forums its the same way. There will always be differances of opinions and how things should and should not have been done. Hope everyone keeps busy in the off season and try to hold on to your sanity till the new season starts. Good hunts to all. |
RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?
Jealousy for the most part. whether it is a guy that shoots a big buck, makes lots of money, has nice vehicles, or a beautiful woman. People hate successful people. By ripping on them, it makes them feel better because their own life sucks.
