RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?

I think alot of hunters look at each season as a competition. They try to outdo their buddies each year. A little competition is ok. It makes us all hunt harder and conquer adversity, but there is a line and sometimes it is crossed.

RE: Why do hunters rip on each other?

I see the term jelousy keep coming up but cant for the life of me figure out what there is to be jelous about in most cases. What the hell do I care if someone 1500 miles away shoots a bigger deer then me?Its not like it was a buck I was going to be persuing in the near future anyway.

A lotta regional differences show up in these type of boards.Awhile back I was talking to a guy from somewhere down south, cant remember which state. He had shot a doe and was quite proud of it, told me it wieghed something like80 or 90lbs.Looked like a dink to me but I didnt say anything, I showed him pics of one Id taken.I hadnt taken into account the fact that deer in his area dont get the same size as the ones here in the midwest and was glad Id kept my opinion to myself after he explained the average deers body size to me where he lived.

Same thing with antlers, guys that see 130 class deer and up all year long on a fairly regular basisoften dont get the fact that in some areas a 100 class deers a good buck.

Regionalhunting techniques and local game laws often shape a guys attitude towards hunting and ethics.Around here everythings broken up into 1 mile sections of land, mostly agricultural with very little cover in most sections.Party hunting is legal for shotgun hunters and deer drives and shooting at running deer are common.

Other places are mostly large areas oftimbered land and deer drives would be a waste of time so the locals prefer tree stand hunting.Go south and some areas are thick vegetation and large swamps and baiting may be the only good way to get deer out into the open. The laws in every state are different and its easy to get into the mindset that whats illegal in your areas also unethical to practice anywhere.

And some people just go out of there way to find something to bitch about.Theyll criticize anything from shot placement to antler size, theyll nit pick anything you say and by the time theyre done sometimes you even wonder yourself if you did something wrong.Ive seen forums where it was so bad the members quit posting pictures, stopped telling hunting stories, and many quit asking for advice about anything. The only good those forums were was if you wanted to argue with someone. Not a lotta fun.

YES!! Applauding!!!!!!

But, unfortunately, as the saying goes, you can't argue with the crazies and the people who were born to bitch...

That's absolutely correct, petasux. That's a good way of putting it!!!!

For the record, a 100 class deer is a trophy in my parts. Tell the bigshots to come here and shoot a 180. You couldn't do it if your life depended on it I'm betting.

petasux - you nailed it!

Hunting experiences are unique dependent upon where you live and hunt. Too many want to bash you just because of the method that you choose for your area does not correspond to their mindset.

So many people rag on others from the safety of their computer....it ticks me off. If you don't have anything good to say, shut up. I run a forum www.menoutdoors.com and I have found that the odd bad apple interjects a bad attitude. Lots of haters in the world.

Jealousy for the most part. whether it is a guy that shoots a big buck, makes lots of money, has nice vehicles, or a beautiful woman. People hate successful people. By ripping on them, it makes them feel better because their own life sucks.
OH sure, easy for you to say since you have a knock down drag out WOWSER.[8D]:D:D Probably aren't more than one or two people on here can remember a thing you've posted.... but we do know who you're married to.:D:D:D
LOL Dave. Thanks for the compliment and from now on all of my posts will just state,"Ask Dave." It will save me time on my posts.[8D]

I have been on this forum for about a year and have seen a lot of hunters gaining up on each other. About horn size, what you shot and how. Hunters should bond there is enogh people out there that are against hunting.

I feel the same way. Most people say it's freindly ripping for bragging rights and some people take it too seriously but then there are ego's that don't know when to stop it. It all comes down to competition and jealousy. We all dream of that big buck but yeah, it's a shame that some people show no class. I only hunt for primarily meat, a rack would be icing on the cake, the thrill of the sport, the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. Nothing more then that. Other then that, I just try to show respect and be a likeable person.

i agree on that one.. i think that the horn size doesnt matter if it wut they say then it is that. you dont have to rip on them just cuz you cant see it in real life.. we should just be happy for the man or women that has shot the animal
