I always cover the skull plate with the hair and everything in plain old salt. Make sure you cut all the fat and meat and stuff off first. Leave the fleashy part covered in salt (salt should be on the back of the skull base where the brain was too. Leave it all there for a week or two, then you can leave it out in the air without it rotting. I don't freeze mine, just sit it on the shelf or something so I can admire the rack untill I'm ready to mount it
