My dad for sure, I lost him long ago when I was only 10 years old, thn it would be my older brother, he stepped up to the plate after my dad passed.
Man my brother could stalk a deer. Been with him many times and got within easy range.

Yep good old dad! sorry 358winman and zrexpilotyou did not have more time with your 's, but it sounds likethey got you started right. They would be proud of your adventures, andknow that he walks beside you on the hunt and always will. I used to hunt with my Grandpa and lost him when I was12, but I still see him when in the field. Something on the huntwill trigger a memory from time to time. He's there when I need strength or amfrustrated with the Hunt all I need do isdraw on my heritage forguidance. Not a hunt go's by with out that moment when my dad uncle or I say"Grandpa would love this" and I should think he is.

I struggle with the thought of my dad and uncle not being on the hunt, it will be a very sad hunt indeed.Knowing I will get threw it , twoparts of me will physically becomemissing and I will only have there memory for council. It will be hard to say "Dad and TomWould haveloved this" But I will in theknowledge they will always be in my spirit.

great posts we should all acknowledge our mentor's from time to time, they deserve it and more.

LONG LIVE THE FREE-RANGERS!

I don't really have one. I taught myself to shoot and hunt, with a little help here and there. My elders all stopped hunting when they started having children, so they're not really up-to-date on weapons, gear, and techniques.

I have to say that Jeff Cooper is someone I really looked up to when it comes to both shooting and hunting. I'll always carry a few of his words around in my head asI'm in the woods.

To me, it's my uncle. When I was four, he dissected a shotgun shell for me to see what's inside. He also showed me the parts of a bullet, and he told me some of his cool stories, like the time he shot a buck in the vitals with a 30-06, but there was a doe behind it, so the bullet passed through the vitals of the buck, into the doe's head! So he killed two in one shot! I thought that was awesome.

When I told him I wanted to take a Hunter's Safety Course, he was REALLY happy about it. All that effort of telling me about hunting had payed off! Getting a 94 gradeon the hunter's safety course was pretty nice too!.

I guess it would be my younger cousin who got me started on hunting. Since then though, I take somecredit for his success however, ha ha!

My dad. He had me shooting by the time I was 6, and hunting by the time I was 9! Shot my first grouse at 9, duck at 10, deer, with a gun, at 14, with a bow at 16, and a moose at 17!

By the time I was 10 I had already shot at thousands of clays with a shotgun and a .22! He prepaired me well and I thank him for it to this day!
