Only retarded thing about blinds is that you have to wear a hunter orange vest inside a blind!!!! They should make a law that allows someone to hunt in a blind without orange vests on, but they should pass a law that says there must be orange on the blind. That's what will work.
that doesn't make much sense. i agree you should have orange somewhere visible outside the blind but having orange on inside the blind is as useless as tits on a boar hog. especially those "condo" blinds where you can do jumping jacks inside and the deer wouldn't even see you if they were 10 feet away.

Guys, I think the law is what it is because they don't want guys taking off the orange, and forget to put it back on when getting out.

A guy who lived about 40 miles from here was killed in his treestand last week when he slipped.... He had a safety harness on, but the weight of his body was too much for his lungs. He hung upside down for at least 6 hours, and died from not being able to breathe. Sad
That sucks. Thats why I always have a knife on me when I'm up there.

a few years back someone told me that you're supposed to use a short teather that is only long enough for you to maybe bend over and to strap it on about eye level when standing up that way you can slip and if you fall it dose not jerk as hard...and that it makes it harder to fall.

Why doesn't the manufacturer build in a harness into a jacket system. On the fire department here we have all out jackets fitted with a pull harness, you could hook this to your safety strap on the tree and be off and running if something should happen. all is well assuming you have your jacket zipped up.

Skidder,

I am not sure how the fire dept. jacket works, but there are several vest-style safety harnesses out there. I use one made by Gorilla. It is fairly simple to use (but kinda heavy!). Hunter Safety Systems make one too.

I knew a boy about 20 years ago that died the same way. The game warden said the strap type belt was on as it was designed, yet it killed him. They found a place where he had cut about half way throught the strap, but his knife was on the ground.

I only wear a strap in certain situations and stand placements (even though I should all the time). But I always have two knives on me. A guttin' knife and an all purpose knife.Mostly just in caseI need to cut my self down if I am wearing a strap. I guess keeping 2 on me is smart, since it sounds like he might of dropped his. Scary stuff.

Safety Harnesses remind me of seat belts. If you wear one, it will either save your life or take your life. All in personal prference I guess.
