RE: post rut tactics?
Find his feeding areas, and keep an eye on the does early on for the second rut. It's short but I've had a lot of luck seeing bucks in this small window of opportunity. Here in Illinois the second rut usually hits somewhere between Dec.10-20, but last year I watched a nice buck breed a doe in early January so it's unpredictable to say the least.

Decoying works well at this time...especially with hot doe scent. I had a really big buck come in last year after the mainrut was over, but he was still wantin' some luvin' and nosing some does around. I grunted a couple of times to get his attention, then snort-wheezed at him. He came in with his ears laid back looking for a fight. He passed up the doe decoy and gave me about a 25 yard shot that I missed. He jumped and ran about 15 yards, stood there for a minute and started to come back in...and right through the same area! This time I knew the yardage and was ready to release the arrow when he got clear of the tree he had between us, but, unfortunately, the wind shifted and the gig was up. He got out of there in a hurry then. Decoys definitely work though!
