Hi - I will be rifle hunting in area 16 in South Central Kansas in a couple of weeks on private, outfitted property. I will be the only rifle hunter for the first week and was wondering what kind of bucks I should expect to see. I know that there is creek bottom, feeders and wheat that has been planted and the property is managed well. I need some advice on what to hold out for. I know that that's a subjective question but what would an average tohigh end whitetail score in that area in your opinion? A trophy to me would score 160+ and am not sure if that is realistic or not. Thanks.

Any spot in Kansas can produce a trophy whitetail and it sounds like with you being the only hunter you should have a pretty good chance at scoring on a good one, however without knowing the outfitter or the way they manage their ground it's hard to say about the 160 score or not. Don't expect to come to Kansas and see a bunch of 160 in. or better deer because it takes a lot for a buck to meet that.
I would simply suggest this. If you like him and want to put him on the wall then take him if not let him walk. Good luck.

There was a real nice 11 pointer takenjust south of Byers, Kansas during muzzleloader season. Per family that lives and hunts in that area (Byers/Pratt), there are some good deer being seen. Problem is that they've had a lot of rain this year in that arean and the grass is tall in areas. Most the guys in our group will shoot the nice 8-9 pointers if they get the chance but those of us with meat in the freezer still hold out for the big boys . . . .
