Default Any gamewardens out there

I get out of the Marine Corps in about a year. I'm trying to decide on a career field to get into when I get out. I'm leaning towards either a cop or a gamewarden. I don't personally know any gamewardens, and I'd like to talk to one basically about how they like the job and the pay and things like that. So if there are any out there please let me know.

B&H,

I am not a gamewarden, but I to was interested in this career in the past. The way I found out about it was checking out GNR website, That's, Georgia Natural Resources. Go to employment and click on law enforcement. Lots of info. and how to get involed and the qualificatios needed to be considered.

I choose not to do it being that you have to move around every two years or so to different parts of the state. Not for me.

I would pick the GW post over the Police any day though.

Good Luck in your career.

I'm not a GW but there used to be a great GW that posted on this board all the time. He could probably give you some good advice. I just emailed him and told him to check out this thread when he gets a chance.

My buddy was in the Marines for 4 yrs and got out a year ago. He is in the police academy right now to be a cop. Good luck!

Boy Jason I hope I can live up to that post. B&H you can e-mail me direct if you want. Every state has different requirements. So here goes- In Maryland we have pay parody with the State Police which makes us one of the highest paid Conservation Agencies in the country. Down side is the State police were low on the list of states ranked by pay last time I checked. Trade off- in a state like MD where you have and do all types of law enforcement conservation enforcement time suffers but you usually receive higher pay. The hours are about the same as any other public service job really. The actual work hours may very day to day and "real" shifts are not really possible as you need to work the activity- many times this is a reflection of the dedication to the job and not just backing up for a check if you know what I mean. I'm just entering my 20th year- and yeah I feel it. It can be a very physically demanding job but also very rewarding. I can honestly say I would not change a thing in my career, except maybe paying attention to the older guys more when I started as they are a wealth of knowledge. I was going much in the same direction as you but really wanted the "Game Warden" job. I was #1 on tests for several police agencies but wanted this way of life not just a job. Hope it helps some, like I said feel free to e-mail but expect a delay as it's right in it now and I'm running alot. Here's a site for DNR links that may help. www.walleyehunter.com/dnrmap.htm

Good Luck,
Charlie

Charlie, no one is going to believe your bull about being busy since you posted less than 45 minutes from when I emailed you. You probably aren't even a GW........I bet you are a dot com computer geek or something. Just kidding with ya.

B&H, take his advice, if anyone knows about this line of work it's No.1!
