A bucks range is going to depend on the part of the country you are in and the herd population. Studies I have seen say they will range about 2,000 acres up to 4,000 acres. They tend to use the same travel routes although some things, timber harvest etc, can change them. Try to place your stand around food sources or between bedding areas and food sources.

Timbercruiser is exactly right. But also watch for changes in food sources. Example, the nearest cornfield and beanfield to me is about a halfa mile away. My stand is completely surrounded by acorns but the first couple of weeks of bow season, I wasn't getting much action, but as soon as the picked those fields, I have saw deer almost everday in my area munchin on the acorns. The bottom line is, know the whereabouts of major food sources within about a 2 mile circumfrence of you.

You got to ask yourself the question: When your neck gets thick, your tarsal glands turn black/blue and every young doe you see makes you walk on five legs...how far will you go to find, chase and have a doe turn her white tail up at you?...Yep, that's what I thought. You'll chase it into the next county, state or country...but prefer the doe next door. But, you won't think - instincts and hormones are in overdrive.
Whitetails are pretty much the same, they like hanging out at the same bars, trolling the same streets, eating at the same cafes and they like staying as close to home as possible.
After the rut, you'll be lucky to get that buck off his couch - I mean bedding area. He had a hot time out with the does and is just too tuckered out to venture far from home...and you'll play heck getting him out of the thickets except for a little food and water close to his bed.
