simple fact
I was watching the discovery channel the other night and they were talking about white tail deer. I thought this was kind of interesting. How many of you thing deer are vegetarains? according to this show deer will eat fish, eggs out of a nest and even baby birds. They will also eat mice, squirrels, etc...if they can catch them. Just thought this was interesting.

Whitetail deer eat whatever is the easiest to eat. They will not chase anything. They constantly forage for food, and if it is there, they will eat it.
I've never heard of a deer chasing a squirrel or mouse in order to eat it. My nephew is a wildlife biologist, I need to ask him about this.

What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about?

RE: simple fact
This may suprise even some bio types, but there is photographic evedence to the fact. On one of the Islands off the coast of Great Britan there are what they call Red Stags/deer, these are related to the North American Elk (Rocky Mt and Roosevelt). They kill and eat sheep that are grazed near the shores of this Is. At first it was thought that it was being perpatrated by the dogs used to heard the sheep, and then wolves(no wolves on the Is. in over 200 yrs) and then by some escaped big cat. It wasn't untill witnesses chased away the deer from the remains that people became suspisious of the deer. I have seen deer kill and eat snakes, and raid turkey nests in the spring. They are not so much interested in the chicks or the meat of the animals but the calcium contained in the eggshells and in the bones, they will also knaw on sheds.
