chewing or dipping while in the stand
chewing tobacco or dipping skoal in the stand, is this a bad thing? I know they can smell it, but if they pay any attention to it orif they get spooked on this smell?

I've never known of it to be a problem. I'm a rather heavy smoker out of the woods, but I have to have my fix, so I dip while I hunt. I just make sure to takean empty bottle in my pack to spit in. I have a friend who says he spits on the ground and the tree underneath him, and that he's had several deer come up and smell it, but I've not seen it for my own eyes, and I wouldn't really feel comfortable doing that anyway.

As a boy I hunted deer with a full blood Commanche Indian who chewed while he hunted. Always killed deer on ground stand. He chewed Apple Chewing tobacco. This was in the late 50's and early 60's. He also used to cut up an apple to hide his scent. And always put some Buck Scent or Buck Lure (a manufactured product then) on his boots and hat.
