I see we share other intrest also. not to get off the hunting subject
but im sure you can relate to my pro street vega project with a hand fabed 4-link, back half and cage, narrowed by me 9" and tubed. about 1/3rd done.
happy hunting. just curious do you ratchet strap your stands or chain and turnbuckle?

I prefer chains and either turnbuckles or long carriage bolts with jamnuts for tensioners personally.


heres the 15' stand in place , I havent done any ground prep for bow season here as this area was kind of an afterthought but Im hoping I can squeeze a food plot out in time for bow season.




I have been focusing all my efforts on the 20' area which has a decent green patch going considering all the dry weather weve been having.
I am going to get some pics ofthat stand tommorrow.

Was just curious, what was your total legnth of tubing before you started to build? I keep looking at them and my welder is pulling on my leg. Just trying to figure up my local prices for a stand like that.

well i dont remember to be honest. I stock 1" square tubing for auto work so I didnt pay attention to how much I used. 1" 16 gauge square tubing sells for about 50 cents a foot if that helps.

if you are mig welding I would suggest using 11 gauge instead of 16 gauge. 11 gauge runs aournd 70 cents a foot.

Heres my 20 ' stand all setup. This stand is kind of a gamble, i put it at the bottom of a valley that is located where 3 separate hills meet. In the winter time its such a good spot that you can see all three hillsides all the way up to the field edge.
For bow season, I have cut out some good shooting lanes hitting the 5 major deer trails that run the hill.

After getting home I realized the camera didnt pic up the treestand in the distance as good as the human eye does, so i circled it in some of the pics of further distances. The last pic is almost at the top of the hill on the west side. If the vantage points arent clear in the pics because of my poor photography, let me just say there are some dead deer walking on this hillside :)

The only real problem is getting into the stand without making my presence known. I litterally have to cross all the trails just to get to her, I may use a scent drag this season to help cover my scent on the way in.

the stand in question is dead center in the map pic .the blue dots and yellow lines represent entrances to the path running along the hill and running up it.

nice work I pretty much hate all treestands just because there a pain in ass to me anyway maybe i just need a better technique but owell i like yours. I do although have and use treestands but i hunt both from ground and tree

so far I have only seen a 4 point and a spike out of the blind covered tree stand. Its been raining alot and contrary to what I read on the internet I never see deer in the rain.
Its been raining for the past 3-4 days so hopefully it will let up soon and I can catch a bigger buck :)

Makes the lock on I just got from e-bay look like a pile. GREAT WORK!

Since you are familiar w/ this: how hard would it be to modify a stand platform to make it bigger? My brother is a welder. He does a lot of those steel carports/buildings that are going up everywhere.

BTW, I now have (2) ladder stands, my new lounge lock on (NOT tree lounge), and a 4x6 box blind. I think that should do it?!

it shouldnt be hard at all to make the platform larger, expanded metal cane be had for ~$50 for a 4 x 8 or if your lucky you can find some drops of expanded metal that can serve you well. lowes homedepot and tractor supply have terrible prices so I would look for a steel shop, your brother should know of the closest one.
