If for some reason I need to check the wind I use some grass or some needles off a fur tree
Use the old tried and true method.....went your finger and hold it up and you will have a cool feeling on the side of your finger the wind is coming from....an oldie method.
my grandfather still goes by that method.

On one of my trips out of the woods after scouting before the upcoming deer season, I like to grab the tops off a couple milk weed plants that are busted open ( or about to bust open ) and I put them in a dry paper bag. I also will grab some golden rod flower tops and place them in a paper bag . When I get home, I put the bags in a cool dry place (out of humidity) and within a week, the flower tops are dry and the inside of the milk weed pouchesare also. I take these with me to my stand and I let em fly. And it doesn't cost me anything.

It's normally cold when I hunt deer in Nov. here. I watch my breath.
I've seen others put a fine talc like powder in small squeeze bottles and puff out small abouts of powder. As long as it's not scented powder, it seems like a good way.

Around a lot of the food plots I hunt I tie a couple of pieces of flagging tape. That way I know what the wind is doing in the area the deer are. They don't pay the flagging tape any attention. A quick look at the weather channel before I go lets me know which plots should be best for hunting that day.

One way to check the wind is just lick the end of your poiting finger.
Ans hold it up in the air you can feel the direction the wind is blowing.

I USE A SMALL ROUND PLASTIC CONTAINER (ABOUT 1/2" HIGH BY 1" AROUND)WITH A 1/4" HOLE IN THE LID AND I PUT MILKWEED SILK (DRIED)INSIDE. THIS CAN BE FOUND IN ABUNDANCE IN THE FALL.ANYTIME I WANT TO CHECK THE WIND I JUST PINCH THE SILK STICKING OUT OF THE HOLE AND PULL AND LET IT FLOAT AWAY. IT DOES NOT DISAPPEAR LIKE DUST AND YOU CAN WATCH THE AIR CURENTS FOR A GREATER DISTANCE.
