moderate recoil, knockdown power, most versatile, "270"

If your on a budget I'd say forget the 710 and look at a Savage package or even the Stevens, same gun minus the accutrigger. Every 710 I've seen is junk. The gunshops I deal with won't even carry them. Oh and by the way, that is the general consensus of most people you'll ask as well.

I'm not a 710 fan. They have very stiff bolt throw, are cheaplt built, and have a cheap scope on them, im not a savage fan reallt either, but you can get a savage thats twice the gun for about the same price. The 710's are built to kick hard, have cheap stocks, and the action and bolt feel like plastic, theyre known to mess up alot too. Id look for something different. But id take a 30-06 over a 270 any day for hunting in the woods. 150gr for deer or bear.

Both of these guns are going to be more than enough. I myself have hunted southwestern Wi and found that both of these calibers were more than enough to get the job done. As for the bears..2 months ago we chased a 500+ pound black bear out of our back 40, It ran right the fence and right into Butch Opelts yard. There have been so many bears in the area the last few years I wont even take a walk in the woods without my Taurus.44mag Rev. Yes a .270 does have enough take down power for a bear if needed. But with the bow season comming up I prefer my .44 mag as a side arm for bear protection. If ya ever want to meet up give me hollar. Im always looking for new places to hunt a few times oout the year. Heres a buck that I shot off my inlaws property back in 2002. The pic is at a bad angle but hes an 8 pointer.

that is pretty weird that we are so close in distance. do u see any bears around cuz ive been seeing a lot and does a .270 have bear take down power. pretty much the longest shot i could take here in hatfield is like 50 yards or so but i also do some hunting down in southwestern wisconsin over some corn fields and such. is a .270 a pretty flat shooting cartridge?

so i have decided to get amy firstdeer rifle and was wondering what u guys think is the best caliber for deer. i am looking at 2 specific guns and one gun is availbe in .243 .270 30-06 300 win and the other is availbe in .270 30-06 7mm and 300wsm. i want a gun that is very accurate and flat shooting so what do u guys think is best choice. thanks.
I have a .270 stevens. It worked great on a deer. you cant go wrong with .30-06 either, its been around in deer hunting rifles for many years. It wouldnt be around if it didnt just plain get the job done. I would have had the 30-06 if the 270 rifle wasnt there on sale and no rifles chambered in 30-06 there at the time. but I ended up with the .270 and it performed superbly. you should look into it.

savage makes rifle under the heading of steven rifles. they have short and long actions for small center fire cartriges and large ones, pretty good coverage of the whole spectrum there. mine was in .270 and cost $300 dollars after tax was added. they are cheap good rifles. every bit as good as savage rifle, only differnce is the name they etch on the bolt and trigger they put in. the stevens trigger is not bad, not the best but still a good one. Look into that if your looking for a good cheaper rifle.

Buy a .270 or a 30-06 in a Browning A-Bolt.

Remington 710= JUNK!
The Savage is about the best gun for the money. The Winchester 70 would be my choice in either the .270 or 30-06! Better yet would be a M70 in the .280 Rem.
