I spilt it with a knife. A kid i went to school with cut his hand open doing that not the best experiance.

we always split the pelvic bone, use one of them zip saws they work slicker than deer poo. not only does it make pulling the guts out easier it makes any excess blood inside the cavity drain easier. unless you hang your deer the wrong way. Always have the head up and the butt end down.

Too much work when you can just ring the anus . Then there's that Deer-e-ere thing to consider ...

a big pair of tree clippers (loppers)work wonders....cutting off the feet, the pelvic bone, it doesn't matter...it'll work

Split it. The Bowie knife makes it easy.
One whack, a crack and it's all over. Takes a few secounds at most and no playing around with the back "vents".

I usually split it, I don't like poop sitting in there till I get home.[:@]
