You can shoot rifled slugs out of rifled barrels, it will not hurt them. And some of them are pretty darn accurate. I can get between 1-2 inch groups at 100 yards with some of them. This is what was used in fully rifled barrels until sabots became popular. However it does make a mess and is not very fun to clean the barrel. It is no different than shooting lead bullets out of a rifle/handgun or conicals out of a Muzzle Loader.
Another down side is the ballistics are not that hot compared to sabots, especially the newer designs. And they are only accurate for a few shots in some guns before you need to clean the barrel. The up side is they cost between 2 and 7 bucks a box compared to 10-15 bucks for some of the the sabot rounds.

You might not like this response but I would suggest you go drop $70+ and buy one box of every saboted slug you can find from the different manufacturers. Slug guns are like rifles and they will "like" one brand over another. You won't know which one it is until you shoot it. My friend and I had the same Mossberg 695 and his liked Lightfields while mine like Federal. My Encore likes the Winchester Partition Golds. It figures since they are $15 a box and kick like a mule but I get 2-1/2" groups at 100 yards.
Good luck.

I have a Winchester 1200 pump with a rifled barrel . I shoot the cheap Federal rifled foster slugs or Winchester Super X . No problem . I wouldn't put a Remington slug through it ...... [:-]

I have always heard that shooting a rifled slug through a rifled barrelwill eventually wear down the rifling. Hmmm Guess I have some research to do.
G2 gave some great advice! Shoot a bunch of ammo through it and see what YOUR gun likes. They are all different.
