Default Knock 5 times?

I was reading an article today about methods of calling in deer. It went on to explain how if you jump a group of does and they never really get a good look or sniff of your presence, sometimes you can bring them back (and maybe a buck following them) by knocking a tree fairly loud 5 times with the handle of your knife of a limb. The sound simulates a buck pawing to let the does know he's there? Anyone ever heard of this or had any success? I've been hunting for 20 years and the first time I remember hearing about it [:-][8D]. Learn something new everyday.

The only way to know for sure, is try it. I have never heard of that, but I give it the benefit of the doubt.

A grunt might work sometimes, but immitating the pawing of a buck doesn't sound like something that would work.

I have never heard of this.I would think any call that you could produce that would have a calming influence on a bumped doe group would be someones best shot.Doe grunt or bleat, turkey cluck or yelp.
