If I also hunted birds or ducks I would say a Deutsch-Drahthaar.They can do it all from point to retrieve, ducks to quail , track rabbit to track down your wounded deer. All of that and a good family dog to boot. But being that I only deer hunt and then only need a trackng dog for myself and others. I will stick to the breed I have now and say the Bavarian Mountain Hound, goes everywere you go loves to be around you, will give you as much love as you want and then some and is good with the kids.

Then again any dog that works for you, loves you no matter how long you leave it in the kennel is a good dog.

I've got 3 Labs and a Springer...
As importantant as breed is, It comes down to the character of the individual dog and the amount of quality time/or money the owner is willing to give to hone those skills and traits that the dog has.
I have seen only a handful of dogs that are good at what they do without training....
The rest are good because of training, or a complete disaster because of lack of it....

TJF,
Looks like you have a couple fine looking dogs there. Does the one with the purple collar hunt? :D

MIxed breed . I saved her from the pound.Best obedient dog I've ever owned. No leash necessary. Hand signals and commands was all I needed.
