Default Thoughts???

I guess I think way too much about huning deer. LOL
Anyways has anyone thought of using a game locator that you would use to find a down animal to locate one in an attempt to harvest it. I was wondering if you thought it would work. Some of these pick up the body heat of an animal out to 100 yards. It seems like it would work when hunting heavy coverage areas. You would use it to scan the area you are hunting. That way if you miss a tail flick or an ear twitch you could pick it up by using the infared equipment used to track a down deer. Thoughts?

I don't know that it would nessecarily take the hunting aspects out of hunting. I do not see as to where it would be any different then using anything ( game ear, baiting, scents, camoflauge etc.) We use all of these items to give us a "leg up" on deer. Just a thought.

The discussion has come up regularly on numereous hunting shows/magazines etc. It is almost universally dismissed as unethical and is/will be illegal in mosts states if the technology becomes readily available.

this thing is basically telling you where the deer is. so there would be no need for scents or camoflauge and anything like that. if you can walk quietly through the woods, then with this product you could be a "hunter". you would be gaurenteed a deer almost. thisIS makin it so hunting isnt hunting. it would just be killing.

Infrared Sensors

The use of infrared sensors to locate or take deer is illegal. It is also illegal to hunt or to retrieve deer with the aid of an infrared detector.

I would never use anything illegal to hunt anything. But if itis legal how would it be different than using say doe estrous , or calls etc.

It is illegal here in KY to use electronic calls or digitally produced callsbut is OK to use grunt tubes etc. I guess it depends on what you use? I seen them advertised to help in the aid of locating a "down" animal just was wondering.

It is legal to bait here in KY but I don't use bait. It is illegal to use dogs to hunt deer in KY also but waht is illegal here may be legal elsewhere does that make it unetical to hunt with the aid of dogs , bait, use scents, calls, or hearing devices?

I agree that hunting has become all about the dollar. Some people think it is wrong to use an in-line with a scope ( which is legal in my state)during muzzloading season. I see it no more as modern technology at its finest wether or not one uses it is a personal preference (as long as it is legal). After all there are not two many people that still hunt with spears. LOL.

It would be different because you could actually pin point a deers location, where scents and calls don't do that, they only give you a chance at either bringing in a deer or keeping one in your area a bit longer. And if youv'e hunted much at all you must know scents and calls are not garaunteed to bring in a deer. just my .02

There have been posts on this topic here before , the majority opinion was usually that the state of the art in infrared tracking devices leaves something to be desired in general . Most reported difficulty finding game at all with it and terrain played a large part too .
