Scopes
I hate to be a poster that always takes and never gives anything back, but right now I don't have that much to give. Any way I have a question about a scope. I spent more on a gun then I planned, and now I don't have that much cash to buy a scope. I can get a better one at christmas, but I need something until then. So, my question is what is a descent scope that I can get for around $100? I know that you all say you should get a quality scope, and I agree with you, but right now there is no way that I can spend much more. I could go a little higher then a hundred, but not much. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For the price you are talking, get a fixed 4X. Check out the auction sites (auctionarms.com, gunbroker.com, even ebay.com) for a used Leupold or Burris or Weaver. If you have to go new, either a Simmons or a Bushnell 4X should work. But avoid anything marked as a .22 scope as the reticle might not hold up. My first choice, though, would be a used Leupold M8 4X, even if the tube were battered and scratched ... as long as the optics are clear. If it has any internal problems, send it back to Leupold for a fix.

You can get the Bushnell Banner 3 x 9 x 40 at Bass Pro on sale in Concord, NC for $69.88 or the Tasco World Class for $49.88 of the same magnification. I suppose all Bass Pros will honor this sale price. You can get the Simmons Aetec 2.8 x 10 x 44 for $149.99 and never worry about replacing it. I'll probably get different opinions on the Simmons but they are good. I have 2 44 Mag scopes that are very dependable.
