Yep! Have Win. 94, Mar.336 and Sav 24V30-30/20ga!
I used the Ruger .270 for a few years and now I use the Ruger 6.5mm Swede.

Well they now have that new 30/30 ammunition by Hornady. The start of the "LEVERevolution", as they say in the ads. It is pointed and gives you roughly 25% more speed and knock down power in a 160 grain bullet. Your trajectory is much flatter too, making the 30/30 a decent gun out to 250 yards according to the ballistics. I myself have never shot at whitetail farther than 71 paces. (The one in the photo at the beginning of this thread.) You can not see whitetail around here at 100 yards, and then only a flash of a tail!!

Has anyone tried shooting this new ammo? How was it?

I use pointed 30-30 for the first round in the chamber and the rest RN or FN in the tube.

I have never shot one but am considering getting one just for the simple fact that 30.06 doesnt have open sites. When your walking thru the timber its kinda hard to get on a deer with a scope before it takes off.

IMO .30-30 is a great caliber rifle for shorter ranges, no more than 150 yards. i did read somewhere that a company was trying to market ballistic tip ammo for the .30-30 to extend it's range. however, i have to disagree with the comment of more deer being killed with it than any other firearm. i believe the .22 calibers hold that title. being the .22 calibers are cheap and the poachers choice. just my opinion though.

My Marlin 336 has taken quite a few over the years. In fact, of the.......oh let's see here.........8 deer it's taken, only 1 has gone farther than 40 yards and that one was heart shot. 6 of them dropped where they stood. The 30-30 is one of the hardest hitters out there. Just don't have the range but here in the brush, who cares?

Truthbetold (originator of this thread).....

That is an awesome Marlin 30-30! It looks identical to mine (but with a scope). I have a Marlin 30AS. See?

Originally I had a nice older Glenfield 4x32 scope on it, but the scope broke and lost its "zero", so I stripped the scope off but kept the Weaver base and rings. This is what my Marlin 30-30 looked like before when I had a scope on it:

I love the 30-30. It is a timeless classic lever gun that has taken more deer than any other rifle cartridge around. 100+ years and it is still going strong.

I began with a 12ga 870 Express Magnum, sold it for a Thompson Center .308 pistol, sold it for the Marlin 30-30. I love the lever action and I really love the hammer safety feature. I have shot many deer with it and it will always be my first choice for Deer.

I usually hunt in Wisconsin where my shots are under 175 yards. This year I took down a buck at 140 yards, one shot, dropped him in his tracks. I am working on posting pictures.
