RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
OK six pages so far and the post count is still going up. I have quickly read the posts and can see a common theme here. Most if not all of us are disgusted with the type blood sport called canned hunting. There is absolutely nothing sporting or ethical about picking out your trophy in a book and going to a feeder behind a fence to kill the animal. Fair chase is more than a saying and it means that the animal has a chance to get away. There is no fair chase while hunting behind a fence. It is like shooting cows in a pasture and no moral person would justify this even if it was for a trophy rack. Six pages and everyone is aiming at the same target. This must be a record. I will close with this thought. Several good members of this forum have had to leave over the canned hunt issue. Some have boycotted in protest over site advertisers that have canned hunting operations and some have been booted because they wouldn't stop talking about it. I think HNI is a serious business and it offers something for most sports persons. "Canned Hunting" isn't hunting and IMO shouldn't be condoned by anyone for a variety of reasons. Most states are now prohibiting the operations because of abuses similar to those depicted on this thread. The threat of spreading CWD and other assorted respiratory diseasesare also troubling the biologists who are concerned with feeders on these farms. Times change and with enough focus perhaps even HNI will not legitimize these businesses.

RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
Jimmy Houston must have lost his mind, I hope all of his sponsers drop him. He was in clarksville indiana in november when Bass Pro Shops opened, wonder if he left there and went "hunting". I think that people need to circulate the video to anyone who hunts and to hhis sponsers. I will not listen to Brooks and Dunn anymore either. Kevin where in Indiana is Peru or Miami county?

What is the point of hunting like that? The effort is what makes a hunting fun! Those videos made me SICK!

RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
ORIGINAL: Jack Ryan ORIGINAL: MassBowhunter I've already posted my disgust about what was seen in the video but I have a question that relates to it. Where are all these hunting and conservation groups we've all pumped money into at one time or another when a situation like this arises? Shouldn't they be on the front lines along with the states and the feds trying to shut down this kind of garbage? If they truly want to protect the future of our huntingshouldn't theybe doing everything they can toput a stopto the very things that jeopardize the future of hunting? These actionssend the wrong message about the hunting industry in general for generations to come so shouldn't taking a stand against this type of thing be a major consideration in their attempts to "protect and preserve" our hunting rights for generations to come? Free gifts and stickers are nice but I think the money could be put to better use like investigating and stopping this kind of thing. I have a hard time believing thatnone of these groups are aware that this type of garbage, that can easily push people to the other side of the fence,is going on all over the country. My apologies toany of the groups doing more than just printing a story about it in their monthly magazines. Keep in mind that my thoughts are targeted at the groups, not the members. Sorry to get OT. [/align] I'm not talking about game wardens, conservation officers, etc. I'm talking about national hunting organizations/clubs that many of us have joined over the years. I'm a member of several national organizations and find myself reading more articles in their mags about what state and federal officials are doing in state x to protecthunting rather thanreading about what the club I'm paying my dues to every year has done. My point is I'd like to see the organizations step up and stand on the front lines with the game wardens, conservation officers, etc. instead of just reporting about it. |

ORIGINAL: MassBowhunter Who is "they" and what are they doing? Either you didn't understand my post or I'm not understanding your reply. I'm not talking about game wardens, conservation officers, etc. I'm talking about national hunting organizations/clubs that many of us have joined over the years. Don't know about the larger national groups, sorry for the confusion. If you are a member perhaps that would be a good question to ask them. RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
i was reading jimmys site and came across this. i made me laugh. i will highlight the good parts
"Since 1976 Jimmy has been entertaining and educating folks that love the outdoors. He is best known for his blonde lockes and trademark laugh. If it is tempting largemouth in Florida, enticing peacocks in South America, catching crappie on Lake Tenkiller or trying to outsmart the elusive wite tail buck in Indiana, Jimmy strives to make you feel like you're right there in the boat or tree stand with him." i wish i had his email. i know this post he will never read. |

RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
OK, here goes nothing.
The activities shown on these videos are a direct result of the very 1st SCORE on agame animal. It will continue because hunting is now a SPORT. A SPORT is based on competition. There must be a SCORE in the end and the player with the highest SCORE gets the accolades, chest puffing rights and EGO stroking. From # of points to inches of spread to mass on antlers. When these are the focus and goal of hunting we should'nt act surprised when some use means of reaching their goals different from our own. As for the question of why are'nt theorganizations thattake in membership dues doing more to stop these type activities? $$$$$$$$$$$$ Membership dues MIGHT pay for their postage. The real money comes from the same people/groups that are using and staging the activities on the videos. Are they going to step on those toes? NO WAY!! Obviously no "answers" here, just pessimism for how hunting will be in the future. As our game wardens become "trophy police" (see antler restrictions) and hunting opportunities continue to become a matter of financial wealth (see lease costs & videos) hunting here may very well end up like it has been in much of Europe, reserved for the wealthy elite. Sorry for the downer post, like I said I'm pessimistic on this issue. God bless PK edited for spelling, hope I got 'em all. PK |
RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
ORIGINAL: kevin1 Further investigation of both Bellar's Place and the other canned ranches statewide is still being conducted , and it has so far come to light that Bellar was only the most egregious violater , not the only one . The practices conducted at Bellar's Place were actually fairly representative of the others , which is why they are being banned here . BTW , whether owned or wild a whitetailed deer in Indiana is considered a game animal , not livestock , and is subject to our game laws . The Lacey Act is never invoked for shooting a cow . |
RE: A MUST SEE FOR ALL HUNTERS !!!!!
