RE: what kind of gun do you use
I use a variety of weapons in my pursuit of biggame. My weapon of choice for the past 4 years has been a "custom" Encore in 300 WSM, but I have now been turned on to Blaser rifles and have an Offroad (synthetic model) in 270 Win and 300 WSM and a Prestige Safari model in 375 H&H. For my trips to Oklahoma for muzzleloader season, I carry my Knight Disc rifle and/or Ultimate Firearms BP Xpress both of which are 50 cals. All of the above are topped with Zeiss scopes. My squirrel gun is a Ruger M77/22 stainless and synthetic topped with a Leupold 3-9x40, and my shotgun for the last 10 years has been a Benelli M1 Super 90.

I'm in IL which is shotgun, BP, muzz and pistolsa. Most of my hunting is near farm fields where I can usually expect shot opportunities of longer ranges and I use a 12 gauge H&R Ultra w/ a straight 4X scope. I call it Orion and I've never been disappointed with it's performance.
When I tuck into the tighter woods, I use my old 12 gauge JC Higgins pump. It has had the barrel shortened and rifled sights brazed on. I call this one Slick and it groupsquite well at 50-75 yards. It got it's name from how well the pump action works. Pointit upwards and push the release and the actionjust drops right back. Drop the muzzle towards the ground and it chambers the round - no hands.
No matter the choice of gun - it's Brenneke slugs!
