In ohio you can hunt half hour before and after sunrise and in the morning I like to be out about half an hour before legal shooting time. Then will hunt for maybe four hours tops and then return three hours before sunset the only time I have ever hunted in the middle of the day is when I sit on the ground ( I never sit in stand after third shift, and I work swing shift) and the next thing I know its one or two in the afternoon. So after a good unplaned nap I can keep hunting.

bow, about four hours before last light. beginning of gun, about the same. end of gun, last two hours. deer are not moving till really late where I am. as proof, I killed a doe at about 10 after five yesterday...right at the cusp of legal shooting light. muzzleflash verified that....

I hunt dark to 10am and depending on the moon, I may go back out at noon or i may wait till 4pm. If there is a full moon i have found the deer move right at dark or sometimes right after dark.

dark to dark most of the time for me. Easier to hunt them in the dark anyway.
I'm in my stand 30-45 minutes before sunup and headed out just after LEGAL SHOOTING HOURS!! Pack a lunch bring some water and have at it.
The exception being toward the end of gun season when they've gone in their underground tunnel system then I'll go 3 hours on each end.

wehre I hunt, I hardly ever see deer in the morning, and I don' tknow why. I usually go out around 11-1130 and set till dark. They start coming out around 1-2 if I were to wait I would risk scaring them away.

I like being on stand before first light,and last light.Shot 2 of my deer this year between 10 and 11 AM,1 at 7 AM. never saw a deer late in the day. Unusual for where I hunt.

Early in the season I go out in the dark stay to about 11 then go back out around 230. but after the season goes on fer a while and towards the end of season I like to head out around 8am and hunt til about 4. It varies like you said on the weather and things.
