How do you cook deer neck?
This isn't camp cooking, this is how in the heck would I cook this, period. Got a deer back from the butcher, and there are two sizeable packages labelled "deer neck." Should I throw it away, or is it worth cooking and how?

RE: How do you cook deer neck?
The neck is one of the best cuts on the deer if you like roasts. Slow roast in a covered kettle, along with some spuds, carrots, etc., for a couple of hours at 350 deg. Or in a dutch oven next to a campfire. It is some fine tendereating.

I like to use in in stews. If you try to cook it like a steak it will get really tuff on ya. Just my thoughts on it!

I would take Wingbone's approach with just a couple of mods:
1. Cook some bacon in the kettle before you put anything in. 2. Add a little red wine 3. Cook 5 or 6 hours at 200 deg. Good luck |
