POSSIBLE WORLD RECORD 220 typical shot in Indiana

Just one more thing, Champlain Islander, the game warden here doesn't use a trophy dummy deer with a big rackhere but they use a small rack because he told me that the reason they use a small rack is that the person will go to court and say that the reason they shot it was because it was a trophy and it was out of there charcter to shoot and can get off by entrapment.
And NO, I do not know that from previous experience.

Well Doctor Death poaching is poaching whether you do it without tags, out of season, or after dark it doesn't matter. So if you would shoot it during legal shooting hours you would shoot it anytime probably. I also guarentee you would be out of tags with all the little bucks you shoot. Im just glad to know that you would be a poacher and can own up to it.

That includes most of the people bashing DD.
People do things everyday that is out of character when subjected to a highly stressful moment. Seeing a deer, of record book quality, would be a stressful, soul-wrenching moment for any honest, ethical hunter.
With that being said, I do not believe I would shoot that deer or any other deer out of season or without tags. Then again, who knows? It's impossible for anyone to say for sure.

most people reading this would shoot that deer legally or illegally.
I have to bet that 99.9% of the forum members would not pass it up either
Statement like this crack me up. How can you speak for the majority of what hunters would doin this situation? Is it to help justify the fact that you would poach a deer if in that situation? Please don't speak for the vast majority of hunters that wouldn't even entertain a notion of knocking an arrow or shouldering a gun with thoughts of shooting a deer illegaly simply because it's a record book buck.
I'm sure I am not alone in the fact that I would NEVER shoot that buck in that circumstance. I think 99.9% and "most people" statements are waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too bold. In fact I think they are completely backwards IMO.
Also let's lose the "holier than thou" comments. Holier than thou attitude does not even come close to applying in this discussion. What is so "holier than thou" about not shooting a buck illegally?? How/why do you percieve people that are against shooting a buck illegally as having a "holier than thou" attitude?

I totally agree with NY BOWHUNTER on this one. There is no way 99.9% of the people would poach!!! So here is a question for DD. Being you have stated that you would shoot that buck no matter if you had a tag or not the question is.... DID YOU POACH THE BIG BUCK YOU SHOT??? Sorry had to ask it and now it probably would be asked on any big buck you evr shoot agian. And just suppose you were lucky enough to shoot the new world record legally you have now opened yourself up to doubt anytime you shoot a buck of that caliber!!!

It's easy to bash someone in a hypothetical scenario however, as it's been said in this thread already, most people reading this would shoot that deer legally or illegally.

I will never take a deer without a tag, after season, after hours. I don't have a problem witha needyperson who poaches a deer for the meat. What pis--s me off is when I find the head chopped off a deer or some butthole is going around showing a deer off that I have passed up for the last 4 years when he didnt have permission to hunt within 20 mi of where the deer came from. If a record buck came by me and I poached it,I think it would haveless meaning to methan the smallest doe I have took. I would look at it and think boy those are nice horns but to bad I took them in an unethical way. It would haunt me.
